The posting

Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen is seeking top early-career researchers for a number of attractive one- to three-year postdoctoral positions.

The salary is very competitive and researchers from outside Denmark may qualify for a reduced tax rate (see terms below).

The Department of Mathematical Sciences has strong research groups in many areas of mathematics, and has an active postdoc and visitors' program. Applicants in all areas of mathematics covered by the research groups of the department will be considered. In particular, there will be postdoc stipends in the following specific areas/centers of the department:

  • Algebraic and arithmetic geometry, applied algebra, geometric group theory, combinatorics, geometry and geometric analysis, Lie theory, representation theory, number theory, and topology, as covered by the Section for Algebra & Geometry and the Copenhagen Centre for Geometry & Topology (GeoTop).
  • Functional analysis, operator algebras, geometric group theory, descriptive set theory, harmonic and classical analysis, history of mathematics, mathematical physics, partial differential equations, quantum information and quantum computing, as covered by the section Analysis and Quantum, the Center for the Mathematics of Quantum Theory (QMATH), and the Quantum for Life Center.

Further information about the Department of Mathematical Sciences is linked here. Inquiries about the position should be made to [email protected]. You are also welcome to directly contact any faculty member closest to your research area.

The postdoc’s duties will include research within mathematics as well as teaching. The teaching load is typically two quarter (half-semester) courses per year, of which one usually is as a teaching assistant. The post may also include performance of other duties.

The position is open with starting date in 2027, ordinarily September 1st or October 1st.

The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.

Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. Potential applicants from outside of Denmark can find information about life in Denmark - including taxation, healthcare, etc. – at https://ism.ku.dk/salary-tax-pension

The application, in English, must be submitted electronically by clicking APPLY NOW below.

Please include:

  • Curriculum vitae, including list of publications.
  • Cover Letter: Substantiate your qualification for the postdoc position and your motivations.
  • Diplomas: Master and/or PhD degree, or equivalent. If you do not yet have a PhD diploma, please just upload a PDF stating your (expected) PhD date.
  • Research plan: Description of current and future research plans.
  • Separate reprints of 3 particularly relevant papers (not mandatory)

The deadline for applications is 15 November 2026, 23:59 GMT +1 (midnight local time).

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Interview Committee. We expect to send invitations for interviews in December 2026 or January 2027. The interviews will typically take place in January and February of 2027, and our search is expected to be concluded around April 2027.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
