This individual will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, a technical authority within Langan, and a practice builder, partnering closely with environmental and firm leadership to expand our presence, strengthen client relationships, and deliver technically sound, defensible environmental solutions. The role will have a primary emphasis on noise and vibration analyses, with opportunities to coordinate across adjacent disciplines such as air quality as needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and expansion of Langan’s Noise Practice, including strategy, positioning, and service offerings;
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, leveraging existing relationships and building new client connections across public and private sectors;
  • Drive proposal efforts, scope development, and fee strategy for noise-related services;
  • Partner with firm leadership to align noise services with broader environmental, infrastructure, transportation, and land development growth initiatives;
  • Serve as a client-facing subject matter expert, advising on noise, vibration, and environmental compliance strategies;
  • Build and maintain relationships with developers, agencies, transportation authorities, infrastructure clients, architects, and other key stakeholders;
  • Represent Langan in industry forums, client meetings, and regulatory engagement;
  • Serve as a lead technical authority for noise and vibration analyses, coordinating with air quality and other multidisciplinary technical teams as appropriate;
  • Lead and review noise and vibration technical studies and environmental documentation, ensuring high-quality, technically defensible deliverables;
  • Oversee noise modeling, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies across a variety of project types;
  • Provide executive-level QA/QC and technical direction across the practice;
  • Mentor and grow a high-performing technical team, providing guidance, oversight, and career development support;
  • Establish and implement best practices, tools, and methodologies across the noise discipline;
  • Serve as an internal thought leader, advising project teams and leadership on complex noise, vibration, and regulatory issues;
  • Support project scoping and environmental strategy, including thresholds, methodologies, regulatory requirements, and agency coordination;
  • Collaborate with environmental project managers and technical SMEs to integrate noise analyses into broader environmental review and permitting efforts;
  • Lead or support responses to agency comments, public review, and technical or regulatory challenges.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience leading noise and vibration analyses for environmental, land development, transportation, and/or infrastructure projects;
  • Demonstrated success in a seller-doer or practice leadership role, including business development and client relationship management;
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, engineering, acoustics, urban planning, or a related field; advanced degree preferred;
  • Strong expertise in applicable New York City, New York State, and federal noise and vibration regulatory frameworks, agency guidance, and accepted methodologies;
  • Working knowledge of relevant environmental review processes, including NEPA, New York SEQRA, and New York City CEQR, as applicable to noise and vibration studies;
  • Strong working knowledge of 23 CFR Part 772 and FHWA noise assessment methodologies for transportation projects;
  • Advanced proficiency with FHWA TNM, FHWA RCNM, CadnaA, SoundPLAN, or similar noise modeling tools;
  • Experience coordinating noise and vibration analyses with air quality and other environmental disciplines is a plus;
  • Experience working with public agencies, transportation authorities, municipalities, developers, and other public- and private-sector clients;
  • Proven ability to lead teams, win work, and deliver high-quality technical projects;

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
