The Defense Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Mechanical Engineer at its Picatinny Arsenal, NJ location, to support the mechanical design, development, and production of fuzing and initiation systems for Armaments and Ammunition. This role focuses on production readiness, manufacturing support, and quality assurance.

Primary Responsibilities.
· Support mechanical design, modernization, and producibility improvements of fuzing and initiation devices.
· Assist in maturing Technical Data Packages (TDPs) and participate in manufacturing evaluations.
· Support risk management and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
· Assist Quality Assurance (QA) activities including Failure Analysis and Corrective Action Reports (FACARs), Requests for Variance (RFVs), and Corrective Action Requests (CARs).
· Provide mechanical engineering support during key program reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
· Support laboratory, environmental, and production testing, troubleshooting, and failure analysis.
· Prepare trip reports and conduct manufacturing site visits (approximately 25% travel expected).
· Contribute to First Article Testing (FAT) and Lot Acceptance Testing (LAT) reports.
· Provide mechanical engineering inputs for Army Fuze Safety Review Board (AFSRB) certification.
· Develop technical reports and documentation to support production milestones.
Basic Qualifications.
·
- Understanding of mechanical design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Willingness to learn FMEA, QA processes, and production documentation (FACARs, RFVs, CARs, FAT, and LAT).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 25%.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications.
· Experience in mechanical design for high-reliability or harsh environment systems.
- Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance analysis, or Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Experience with CAD software (Creo preferred) and Product Data Management tools (ePDM and Windchill).
- Prior internship or exposure to manufacturing, quality, or failure analysis.
- Familiarity with DoW acquisition or munitions programs.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $57,850.00 - $104,575.00
