The posting

Leidos’ High Fidelity Simulation Business Area designs and delivers cutting-edge system-of-systems solutions that power world-class simulation, training, and analysis products for the U.S. Navy. Our work spans advancements in software standards and technologies for data processing, storage, simulation and generation, and visualization, as well as the development of new software capabilities for Navy systems operating afloat and ashore.

In this role, based at a U.S. Government facility in Bethesda, MD, you will apply state-of-the-art technologies to develop advanced sonar tactical decision aids (TDAs) and related software capabilities that directly support the Fleet. You will be part of a high-performing team tackling complex technical challenges across data, simulation, visualization, and tactical decision support—helping shape the Navy’s tactical edge and making a tangible impact on national security.

At Leidos, we empower our engineers to do meaningful work while continually building new skills, expanding their technical capabilities, and growing the career they want to achieve.

Primary Responsibilities.

  • Mentor a de-centralized team of 5+ developers, applying agile methodologies within a larger 50+ member program.
  • Collaborate in an agile environment to design, develop, and deliver complex mission system software.
  • Own and deliver solutions built with Java, Scala, React, and other modern technologies.
  • Explore and apply new frameworks and languages such as Angular, Rust, or Scala to meet evolving mission needs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges with creativity and efficiency.
  • Make informed decisions even with limited information in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Recognize when to adapt or pivot during implementation to ensure the best technical and mission outcomes.
  • Drive process improvements and introduce innovative workflows that enhance team performance.
  • Influence positive change through collaboration, initiative, and technical leadership.
  • Balance multiple priorities and adapt quickly to urgent or shifting requirements.
  • Communicate clearly across teams, stakeholders, and leadership.
  • Apply agile best practices to deliver high-quality, iterative results that make an impact.

Travel occasionally to Manassas, VA for integration efforts and direct team collaboration.

Basic Qualifications.

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Information Systems
  • Ten (10) years of professional experience with software engineering.
  • TS Clearance with SCI eligibility

Desired Qualifications.

  • Experience with NoSQL/NewSQL data stores, the Scala, Rust, TypeScript programming languages.
  • Experience with visualization technologies and user-interface development, including HTML5/Javascript/CSS, CesiumJS, and associated toolsets such as Angular and React.
  • Experience with applying programming concepts in a professional or academic setting.
  • Experience building and supporting continuous integration pipelines (e.g. DEVOPS/DEVSECOPS) in a professional or academic setting.
  • Agile Developer certification or Certified Scrum Developer certification with experience participating in and helping to lead day-to-day activities of a scrum team or other Agile software development team.
  • Experience with Big Data processing technologies such as Cassandra, Kafka, Spark, etc.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, REST, Docker and containerized microservices.
  • Experience in development and integration of software in an environment including multiple security domains and system-of-systems.
  • Experience with commercially available cloud computing service solutions such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Experience in development and sustainment of Linux based software development.
  • Demonstrated open-source contributor.
  • Security+ Certification

What You’ll Work On

  • Develop and enhance Advanced Signatures Technologies (AST) systems, including sonar tactical decision aids (TDAs) across multiple code baselines and Navy platforms.
  • Apply modern software technologies and architectures supporting Big Data processing, cloud computing, data science, microservices, virtualization, signal processing, and geospatial information systems.
  • Design and integrate capabilities that leverage historical and recent intelligence data to improve Navy data-processing architectures and support predictive analytics and tactical decision-making.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex software and system integration challenges while developing innovative solutions across distributed Navy software environments.
  • Learn and apply new programming languages, frameworks, and emerging technologies, with mentorship and support from experienced engineers and subject-matter experts.
  • Collaborate with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) composed of NSWCCD personnel, prime contractors, and partnering organizations to support coordinated software development, integration, testing, and deployment.
  • Support software and system integration, testing, and installation within NSWCCD Engineering Development Models (EDMs), Fleet environments, and sponsor-directed integration, training, testing, and analysis sites.
  • Occasionally support hardware system configuration and build-out, gaining exposure to the full lifecycle of software, hardware, and system-of-systems integration.

This opportunity is ideal for developers who thrive on solving complex technical problems, want to expand their expertise across modern software and data technologies, and are motivated by work that directly supports the U.S. Navy’s operational readiness and tactical capabilities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
