The posting

Leidos is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support a complex, multi-year contract providing Systems Engineering and Integration support to the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). The work performed on this Leidos-led prime contract is mission-critical and offers team members the opportunity to work independently while applying their technical expertise in cross domain technologies.

The Systems Engineer will support a high-priority, high-visibility development, integration, and implementation effort for a mission-critical DISA Cross Domain program. The selected candidate will independently perform complex technical assignments, contribute to multiple concurrent engineering efforts, and collaborate across engineering and mission teams to deliver effective technical solutions.

The successful candidate will be a motivated, forward-leaning engineer with demonstrated technical expertise, strong problem-solving abilities, and experience supporting complex systems engineering and integration activities.

The ideal candidate demonstrates sound technical judgment, the ability to independently resolve complex technical challenges, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions. This individual is expected to quickly understand complex environments, proactively identify opportunities for improvement, and effectively manage competing priorities. The role requires the ability to operate with minimal oversight, adapt to evolving mission requirements, and contribute to technical solutions in a dynamic, fast-paced customer environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Analyze and decompose customer and system requirements in alignment with cross-domain roadmaps and mission objectives.
  • Design, implement, integrate, and maintain cross domain systems and infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage systems, and software applications.
  • Independently configure, administer, and troubleshoot physical and virtual environments, including VMware and ESXi systems.
  • Implement, validate, and maintain system security configurations, including DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), to ensure compliance with applicable security requirements.
  • Perform hands-on hardware and software configuration of systems, including network configuration, cabling, and integration of physical devices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze requirements, evaluate technical solutions, and support engineering decisions aligned with mission and security objectives.
  • Independently install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot IT system components to ensure operational stability, reliability, and performance.
  • Work directly with customers, mission partners, program managers, and technical team members to coordinate and execute system integration activities.
  • Develop, modify, and maintain automation scripts using technologies such as Ansible, Python, Bash, and PowerShell to streamline deployments, support internal lab environments, and address program maintenance priorities.
  • Provide technical support for system infrastructure, network security, and Authorization & Accreditation (A&A) activities, including security assessments and remediation efforts.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, system architecture diagrams, and Engineering Implementation Plans.
  • Execute system integration, testing, verification, and validation activities to ensure systems and components meet technical and operational requirements.
  • Maintain accurate hardware, software, and configuration records to support system baselines, documentation updates, and configuration management processes.
  • Identify and troubleshoot complex system issues, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Contribute to the development of technical procedures, training materials, and knowledge-sharing initiatives across the engineering team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Active Secret clearance is required; active TS clearance preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 4–8 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with full lifecycle systems engineering, development, integration, testing, and implementation activities.
  • Strong hands-on experience configuring, administering, and troubleshooting VMware and ESXi virtualization environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with hardware and software configuration of physical systems, including network configuration, cabling, and integration of physical devices.
  • Experience developing and maintaining DoDAF architecture frameworks to support systems engineering design and implementation, including proficiency with Microsoft Visio.
  • Demonstrated experience performing advanced Tier III-level troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of complex technical issues within operational environments.
  • Experience developing, modifying, or maintaining automation scripts using technologies such as XML, Python, Bash, PowerShell, Java, or C++.
  • Strong working knowledge of system development processes, databases, operating systems, and enterprise IT infrastructure concepts.
  • Hands-on Linux command-line experience, with certification such as CompTIA Linux+ or Red Hat certification, and understanding of virtual machine architecture.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining DISA STIGs and supporting security compliance within DoD environments.
  • Must possess DoD 8140 (formerly 8570) IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+) prior to start date and maintain certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze technical requirements, troubleshoot complex systems, and implement effective engineering solutions with minimal oversight.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams and mission stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical assignments, adapt to changing priorities, and consistently deliver high-quality work in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Willingness to travel CONUS and OCONUS up to 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS clearance.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies, including Docker and OpenShift.
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
  • Experience supporting end-to-end cross domain systems development, integration, and deployment efforts.
  • Experience working within DISA or other DoD enterprise environments.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools.
  • Familiarity with engineering best practices such as Raise the Bar Version 5.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
