The posting

Our client is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to perform maintenance and repair work on trackless mobile machinery (TMM) within an underground mining environment. The role includes planned maintenance, fault identification, repairs, inspections and testing, with a strong focus on safety compliance and accurate maintenance records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act, Codes of Practice (COPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company SHE policies.
  • Identify, report and control workplace hazards and risks timeously.
  • Complete planned maintenance tasks in accordance with the applicable maintenance schedule.
  • Complete job cards, service sheets and handover reports accurately.
  • Apply lock-out and isolation procedures at all required times.
  • Conduct repairs in accordance with OEM and workshop standards.
  • Test systems following repairs and ensure that completed work is appropriately signed off.
  • Record completed maintenance and repair work in the relevant machine history book or file.
  • Complete lubrication, inspection and service checklists correctly.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working within a TMM environment, including at least 3 years' experience at an underground mine.
  • Experience performing maintenance work on trackless mobile machinery, specifically:
  • Drill rigs
  • Dump trucks
  • Load Haul Dumpers (LHDs)
  • Ability to read and interpret hydraulic circuits.

Advantageous Experience

  • Previous experience working on TMM makes such as Aard, Fermel, GHH, Atlas, GMG, Sandvik and Bird Machines.

Key Competencies

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to apply the fundamentals of automotive repair and maintenance technology.
  • Ability to recognise and respond to typical mechanical and maintenance defects.
  • Ability to prioritise issues, tasks and objectives according to their relative importance.
