A Software Developer is responsible for contributing to the design, development, and maintenance of high-quality software solutions. This role supports a range of diverse and technically challenging projects. Opportunities and responsibilities will expand over time, with increasing technical scope and ownership. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is expected to ensure effective delivery and alignment with business goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This Software Developer III position is for the Student Information Services (SIS) Team in IT Development. This role will be responsible for the development, testing, and maintenance of software solutions that support Liberty's Student Information System (SIS) initiative. The developer will contribute directly to Identity Management (IDM) services and core SIS application development, working closely with technical leads, business analysts, and other developers to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions that meet the university's operational needs.

  • Write clean, efficient code and participate in code reviews to ensure quality standards are maintained and development skills are honed.
  • Analyze code and identify bugs, using logical reasoning to resolve issues. Ability to seek guidance and feedback as needed.
  • Consistently deliver code on schedule and adhere to established processes.
  • Handle a mixture of technical challenges, efficiently balancing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines. Able to navigate shifting priorities, maintain focus during high-pressure situations, and help set estimates for effective planning.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards and conduct regular code reviews to maintain high quality. Make architectural decisions on individual features.
  • Facilitate team collaboration by leading technical discussions and effectively creating consensus and clarity while resolving differing viewpoints among more junior developers.
  • Apply analytical thinking early in the project cycle to guide intentional software design and user experience decisions, preventing issues down the line.
  • Consistently show up prepared, on time, and available to support the team. Take ownership of individual and shared responsibilities, ensuring tasks are completed and team commitments are met. Actively support others and step in when needed to help the team succeed. May be called upon to support potential High or Critical incidents after hours, as needed.
  • Provide support to junior developers on technical challenges as needed, mentor them, and can communicate effectively with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Proactively explore new and innovative solutions to enhance existing features and improve user experience.
  • Utilize experience to provide insight into code reviews and provide constructive feedback to improve team skills.
  • Support planning and contribute to structuring team development processes, ensuring clear tasks and timelines.
  • Adhere to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary and professional manner.
  • Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field is required.
  • 5+ years of software development experience, with a strong portfolio of completed projects, is required.
  • Technical Leadership: Ability to guide architectural decisions and lead technical discussions within the team.
  • Full Stack Proficiency: Deep understanding of front-end technologies (e.g., React, Angular) and back-end technologies (e.g., databases, Java, Node.js, PHP, Spring). System
  • Design: Strong skills in designing scalable and maintainable systems and understanding design patterns.
  • Advanced Testing Skills: Proficiency in unit, integration, and end-to-end testing frameworks.
  • DevOps Familiarity: Experience with CI/CD pipelines and version control practices, as well as knowledge of deployment strategies.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to assess situations, evaluate information, and solve both routine and complex problems using sound judgment.

  • Frequently required to perform desk-based work, including computer use and data entry.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in meetings and collaborative settings, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Proof of a valid driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, LU Driving Approval, and liability insurance is required when driving in the performance of the employee’s position.

Pay Range

Compensation is determined based on factors such as qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, along with University needs and external market conditions. Market benchmarks may be used, as appropriate, in combination with internal equity to ensure pay is fair and aligned with the broader compensation structure.

The position may also be eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and tuition assistance.

$95,000.00 - $115,000.00
