The posting

Overview

Lightship is the first American all-electric recreational vehicle manufacturer currently developing an aerodynamic, battery-powered trailer for the electric age. As the macro transition to an all-electric transportation ecosystem accelerates, Lightship is bringing the increased convenience and superior performance that electrification offers to a pastime enjoyed by over 11 million American families.

Honoring Diverse Perspectives

Lightship is committed to hiring and developing top talent from diverse backgrounds. We believe representing and supporting diverse groups is key to the success of our team members, customers, shareholders and the achievement of our mission and vision. We operate in a collaborative environment with a flat organizational structure and expect a high degree of integrity, autonomy and creativity from all members of the team.

About the Role

As Field Service Engineer at Lightship, you will play a critical role in supporting our groundbreaking all-electric RV trailer fleet. Reporting to the Director of Service within our Operations organization, you'll serve as the primary technical resource for our customers while helping to build our service infrastructure from the ground up. This role combines hands-on technical problem solving with strategic service development in a fast paced, growth-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical support resource for our customer fleet, diagnosing and resolving complex issues with our all-electric RV systems
  • Travel to provide on-site customer support across various US locations
  • Develop and document service procedures, troubleshooting guides, and repair protocols for electric drivetrain, battery systems, and RV components
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to identify and implement product improvements based on field experience
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers, providing exceptional technical support and collecting valuable feedback to share within the organization
  • Create a knowledge base of common issues and solutions to support scalable customer service
  • Analyze service data to identify trends and recommend preventive measures
  • Assist in establishing service center requirements and dealer service capabilities
  • Contribute to the development of remote diagnostic tools and procedures

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical role, preferably with electric vehicles, RVs, or complex electromechanical systems
  • Hands-on experience with electromechanical test equipment and tools
  • Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex, multidisciplinary issues with little or no oversight
  • Strong communication and documentation skills with the ability to explain technical concepts and issues to a wide audience from engineering leaders to customers and non-technical staff
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (up to 70-80%) for the first 6-12 months, with ongoing travel requirements thereafter. Expect travel to decrease to 30-40% as service organization and network scales.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of high voltage electrical systems, battery technology, and power electronics
  • Experience with ECU troubleshooting and maintenance tools including CAN bus communication and firmware updating tools and methods
  • Demonstrated experience with diagnostic tools and procedures for electrical and mechanical systems
  • Background in product development or manufacturing of complex electromechanical systems
  • Familiarity with service parts management and logistics

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
