Job Description

Job Title: Engineer Manager

Starting Salary: $110,000

Job Summary:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Engineering Manager leads plant engineering and program management, including new program launches, engineering changes, capital projects, costing, quoting, operational support, and continuous improvement. This role sets priorities, develops the team, supports production needs, and ensures work is completed safely, on time, within budget, and to customer, quality, and financial requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the engineering and program management team by setting clear priorities, assigning ownership, coaching performance, and building independent problem-solving, accountability, technical capability, and readiness for expanded responsibility.
  • Promote a culture centered on safety, quality, respect, urgency, disciplined execution, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage program launches, engineering changes, and capital projects to approved timing, scope, budget, safety, quality, and performance requirements; identify risks, delays, and cost variances early and implement clear recovery plans through verified closure.
  • Lead capital equipment sourcing and purchasing in accordance with Linamar approval requirements, from technical scope and supplier evaluation through installation, acceptance, and project closeout, ensuring approved budgets and performance criteria are achieved.
  • Lead APQP and actively maintain PPAR from award through launch and stabilization to accurately reflect program health, open risks, action ownership, gate readiness, spending, deliverables, and recovery plans.
  • Oversee the deliberate selection, development, industrialization, and validation of manufacturing processes against quoted cost, capacity, quality, safety, and performance assumptions.
  • Ensure engineering standards and launch documentation, including PFMEAs, process flows, control plans, work instructions, PPAPs, and Q-Gate reporting, are accurate, current, practical, completed on schedule, and consistently used.
  • Partner with Operations and Maintenance to assign, prioritize, communicate, and resolve production, process, equipment, quality, capacity, cost, and workflow needs through timely, practical solutions and sustained corrective action.
  • Own accurate, competitive, and complete engineering inputs for costing and quoting, supported by documented manufacturing concepts, cycle times, labor, tooling, capital, launch costs, capacity, timing, feasibility, assumptions, and risk assessments.
  • Drive measurable, financially and operationally validated improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, scrap, downtime, capacity, equipment reliability, and profitability, ensuring results are sustained after implementation.
  • Apply technology, data, controls, robotics, and automation to deliver verified improvements in efficiency, repeatability, labor utilization, safety, quality, and cost while eliminating repetitive work where practical.
  • Integrate safety and quality requirements into engineering decisions, maintain required training and controlled documentation, and support incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Academic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field is required; a master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience leading new product launches, capital projects, manufacturing process development, and cross-functional improvement initiatives is required.
  • Automotive manufacturing experience is preferred.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership capability in a manufacturing environment, including the ability to set direction, align resources, hold people accountable, and build an effective team.
  • Strong project and program management skills, including scope control, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, prioritization, and execution through closure.
  • Demonstrated ability to use PPAR and other Linamar program management systems to manage gates, risks, actions, timing, cost, and launch readiness.
  • Working knowledge of capital equipment sourcing, technical specifications, supplier evaluation, capital requisitions, approval workflows, budget tracking, equipment acceptance, and project closeout.
  • Strong manufacturing costing and quoting capability, including development and critical review of process assumptions, cycle times, labor, tooling, capital, launch costs, capacity, and technical risk.
  • Strong working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, process control, engineering change management, and structured problem solving.
  • Demonstrated capability in manufacturing process selection, process development, industrialization, automation, and the application of technology to improve operating performance.
  • Ability to analyze technical and financial information, compare actual performance with plan, and make sound decisions based on facts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, suppliers, and leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to support Operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment by responding to production needs, working directly at the process, balancing immediate containment with permanent corrective action, and maintaining clear ownership through closure.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-shift manufacturing environment without losing accountability for details or deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; experience with project management and manufacturing systems is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of progressive manufacturing engineering experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibility.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
