Bus Driver

Bus stops are Point to Point (no house passenger stops)

Seeking part-time substitute bus drivers for both our Denver and Lincolnton School locations. Hours may vary. Requirements for CDL License below.

LCS CDL Licensing RequirementsDriving Record

An individual must certify at the time of application that they do not hold more than one driver license and that their license is not suspended, disqualified or revoked.

Some convictions will make a driver ineligible to operate a school bus.

No more than one conviction for a moving violation within the past 12 months. No more than three convictions for moving violations within the past 5 years. For licensing purposes, Prayer for Judgment Continued (PJC) is considered a conviction. No conviction of Driving While Impaired (DWI) within the past five years. No more than one conviction of DWI ever. No instances of driver license suspension or revocation for moving violations within the past five years Applicants that have been in NC less than five years, a copy of driving record from previous state is required. No convictions deemed disqualifying by federal commercial driver license (CDL) requirements. At least 21 years of age with at least 6 months of driving experience as a licensed operator of a motor vehicle

*Medical & Physical

School bus drivers must meet federal qualifications to be certified as being physically and mentally competent to operate a school bus. If questions arise about a driver's physical condition, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles may require the driver to submit a completed medical report (provided by the NCDMV Driver License Section), before or after certification. Some pre-existing conditions are prohibited, and some are allowed. Sometimes a condition may require a CDL physical every 12 months, such as high blood pressure controlled by medication. The physician can answer your questions.

Drug Testing

You must pass a drug screen. Numerous prescription medications are prohibited or conditionally allowed. Most of the unapproved substances are opiates or mind altering drugs or stimulants. Please consult the Federal list or consult the doctor to ask.

Training & Testing

School bus drivers must:

Successfully complete the required three-day school bus driver training class Pass up to four different knowledge tests with a score of 80 percent or better on each test Successfully complete the required behind-the-wheel training with a driver education program specialist Pass a skills test

The school and the State of NC provide the classroom driving and training.

Fees: The School will pay all licensing fees

Restrictions

Under North Carolina law, the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles does not issue or renew a commercial driver licensing with a "P" or "S" endorsement to anyone required to register under sex offender and public protection registration programs.

Suspensions & Revocations

In addition to the rules that apply to the driving public, commercial driver license holders are required to follow rules specific to commercial motor vehicle drivers and comply with the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act to maintain their commercial driver license and keep their school-bus driver certification.

Sequence of Licensing:

1) Fill out employment application

2) Pass criminal background check

3) Pass CDL Medical and pre employment physical

4) Attend NC bus driver training class and pass the written tests

5) Obtain a NC CDL driver permit

6) Attend 3 day driver on road training and pass the pre-trip and driving tests
