The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a QA Test Engineer, Industrial based in Canada.

We are seeking an experienced QA Test Engineer (SDET) to establish and own automated test coverage for industrial software connectors and data integrations. In this hands-on engineering role, you will build automation frameworks, regression suites, and device and protocol simulators to validate systems that communicate with industrial control equipment. You will work closely with industrial software developers and distributed engineering teams across Canada and the United States, ensuring reliability across real-time data environments. Your work will strengthen product quality by testing APIs, industrial protocols, system upgrades, backward compatibility, and performance under demanding conditions. You will also integrate automated tests into continuous integration pipelines, helping identify issues early and improve release confidence. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to technology at the intersection of industrial operations, edge computing, and AI within a collaborative, fast-moving engineering environment.

Accountabilities

  • Build and maintain automated test coverage for industrial connectors communicating through protocols such as OPC-UA, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and DNP3.
  • Develop end-to-end tests that interact with the platform through REST APIs and integrate them into GitLab pipelines for execution on every internal build.
  • Design and implement device and protocol simulators to enable reliable testing without depending on access to physical industrial equipment.
  • Organize automated coverage into development and regression test suites, running regression tests on Long-Term Support (LTS) builds and according to an agreed schedule.
  • Validate software upgrades, backward compatibility, system behavior under load, and long-duration stability through soak testing.
  • Investigate test failures using pipeline logs, document findings with accurate timestamps, and distinguish product defects from infrastructure-related issues.
  • Maintain test cases and execution results in Jira and Xray, ensuring test coverage can be tracked and reported by component.
  • Review and clarify acceptance criteria at the beginning of development tasks to ensure requirements are testable and quality considerations are addressed early.
  • Collaborate closely with industrial developers and engineering teams in Canada and the United States to improve testability and overall product reliability.
  • 5+ years of experience in software test automation, including at least 3 years writing automated test code using Go, Python, or a similar programming language.
  • Strong programming and automation skills; this is a code-focused SDET role rather than a manual testing or record-and-playback position.
  • Hands-on experience with REST API test automation, including using API calls to create, modify, and validate system state.
  • Working knowledge of at least two industrial or Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) protocols, such as OPC-UA, Modbus, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, DNP3, or MQTT.
  • Practical experience with Linux, Docker, and continuous integration pipelines, preferably GitLab CI, including the ability to analyze pipeline logs and troubleshoot failures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to investigate complex system behavior.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with developers and distributed engineering teams.
  • Nice to have: Experience developing device or protocol simulators, or working with hardware-in-the-loop testing environments.
  • Nice to have: C++ or Go development experience, particularly in environments where these languages are used for core product development.
  • Nice to have: Experience with Playwright or similar modern UI automation frameworks.
  • Nice to have: Familiarity with Jira and Xray for test case management and test execution tracking.
  • Nice to have: Understanding of PLC concepts, including the distinction between memory tags and symbolic tags.
  • Nice to have: Experience with performance, load, or soak testing.
  • Full-time employment.
  • Flexible work arrangement: hybrid work in Toronto or Santa Clara, or fully remote work within Canada or the United States.
  • Opportunity to work on industrial software, real-time data systems, edge computing, and technologies supporting industrial AI.
  • Direct ownership of test automation strategy and meaningful impact on product quality and engineering practices.
  • Collaborative environment with experienced engineering professionals and opportunities to influence product development as the organization scales.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
