Job Description

We have an opening for an Information Systems Security Engineer to provide cyber and technical support for classified networks, standalone systems, security systems, security tools for vulnerability management, patch management, and auditing. You will manage complex security plans and component configurations, maintain cyber security tools, lead incident response, and lead large scale computer security projects. You will interact regularly with team members, customers, management, and sponsors to solve a variety of complex cyber problems in a timely manner. This position is in the Information Technology Solutions (ITS) Division supporting the Field Intelligence Element (FIE) within the Computing Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

You will

  • Serve in the Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) role as the author and owner of comprehensive cyber security document packages.
  • Plan, design, and evaluate complex cybersecurity solutions.
  • Perform computer security tasks such as vulnerability remediation, audit of computer logs, and creation of documentation on policies, procedures, test plans, and risk analyses.
  • Inspect information systems to verify compliance and work closely with system administrators to maintain security and accreditation status.
  • Collaborate with customers in the design of their computing environment and security management processes.
  • Research solutions and manage cyber-security related projects with a diverse scope over multiple environments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the SES.4 level

  • Partner with the FIE Cyber Manager to assist with collaboration and negotiation with internal and external stakeholders, including LLNL, DOE, and other agencies, to identify, prioritize, and oversee implementation of information system security solutions that meet mission requirements.
  • Provide security architecture guidance and oversight to ensure information systems are designed and engineered in compliance with LLNL, DOE, and external customer requirements, and that they meet programmatic risk and authorization objectives.
  • Establish priorities, allocate resources, manage schedules, and deliver complex cybersecurity projects within required cost and time constraints.

Qualifications

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer and Network Security, Engineering, Business, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Experience with cloud computing environments and/or artificial intelligence, including large language models (LLMs), their security considerations, implementation, and practical applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of cyber-related tools for auditing, compliance verification, vulnerability testing, and continuous system monitoring.
  • Significant experience setting priorities and solving complex problems in a fast-paced, customer-focused team environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer security principles, practices, and procedures with experience independently applying this expertise to analyze complex cybersecurity risks and develop technically sound solutions.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, technical team environment with competing priorities and meet deadlines that are important to project success.
  • Experience approaching difficult problems with enthusiasm and creativity, and to change focus when necessary.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to collaborate multidisciplinary teams to influence technical decisions and document, present and explain complex cybersecurity risks, findings, and recommendations.

Additional qualifications at the SES.4 level

  • Expert-level experience providing strategic technical leadership to resolve highly complex, ambiguous cybersecurity challenges with significant organizational or programmatic impact; integrating conflicting technical, operational, and stakeholder requirements to establish innovative, risk-informed solutions, technical direction, and long-term security approaches.
  • Expert verbal and written communication skills, with experience providing strategic technical advice to senior management, sponsors, and multidisciplinary teams; influencing consequential cybersecurity decisions.
  • Subject matter expertise in interpreting and implementing DOE, DoD, and Intelligence Community security policies and requirements in classified environments to support system authorization and ongoing security compliance.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Professional IT/Cyber certification (e.g., CISSP, CISM, SANS Certification).

$175,530 - $222,564 Annually for the SES.3 level

$210,630 - $267,030 Annually for the SES.4 level

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
