Purpose of the job / project

The Luxembourg AI Factory (L-AIF) is part of a European wide initiative (EuroHPC consortium) to enhance the use of high-performance computing (HPCs) in Europe and facilitate the adoption of AI. By magnifying the potential of AI, L-AIF's objective is to support businesses in adopting and implementing AI Solutions tailored to their maturity and needs. This includes access to the Luxembourg HPC – MeluXina-AI – to tailor AI models to small and medium enterprises (SMEs); discovery, access, and brokerage of data for AI model training; as well as compliance checks via its AI and regulatory Sandboxes. In short, L-AIF accompanies SMEs along their journey towards AI innovation. As a Consortium partner, LNDS is participating in this project through its expertise in data management and technical deployment of business solutions. We are therefore looking for a Systems Engineer II to help us make the L-AIF the one-stop-shop for AI adoption in Luxembourg and promote the country as a trustworthy AI hub in Europe. https://www.aifactory.lu/

As a Systems Engineer II, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining secure and scalable infrastructure underpinning the Luxembourg AI Factory platform. You will collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to build, deploy and maintain Secure Processing Environments (SPE) on a HPC AI cluster. You will be part of the Technology and Infrastructure team and contribute to high-impact European initiatives in AI, data governance, and digital public infrastructure.

What you will do

  • Contribute to the deployment, configuration, and ongoing support of SPE on the upcoming MeluXina-AI HPC in close collaboration with LuxProvide.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of unified and automated processes to accelerate and streamline deployment of LNDS activities across the infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes clusters, including deployment, and management of containerized secure workloads.
  • Ensure reliability, scalability, and security using privacy- and security-by-design principles.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure and service-related issues.
  • Contribute to the documentation of architecture, configuration, and deployment procedures.
  • Support coordination with stakeholders and help provide technical assistance across the project.
  • Participate in European collaborations and travel occasionally for joint activities

Who you are

  • MSc in computer science, IT, engineering, or related fields.
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Awareness of cybersecurity practices and privacy-by-design principles.
  • Expertise in Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) system administration.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash) and programming (e.g. Python or R).
  • Familiarity with Git, GitHub/GitLab platforms.
  • Familiarity with HPC job schedulers (e.g., SLURM, PBS) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of remote-access tools like VNC or RDP.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Working knowledge of one of Luxembourg’s official languages (French, German or Luxembourgish) is a plus
  • Analytical thinker, adaptive, and comfortable in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Culturally aware, solution-oriented, autonomous and quality-driven.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
