The posting

We are looking for a talented and experienced CAD Systems Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned Civil Designer or CAD Manager with strong expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D. This is an outstanding opportunity to join an expanding firm with multiple Best Places to Work recognitions. The CAD Systems Manager will play a pivotal role in enhancing design efficiency, ensuring consistency in project deliverables, and driving the adoption of best practices across our organization, ultimately supporting our commitment to high-quality service and innovation for clients.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement based out of one of our office locations in Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Ohio, Kentucky, or Texas. For highly qualified candidates located in the Midwest but not within reasonable commuting distance of one of our offices, a remote work arrangement with periodic travel may be considered.

In this role, you will manage AutoCAD standards and workspaces across multiple states, with a primary focus on Civil 3D. You will be instrumental in establishing and implementing standards and workflows for modeling and plan/production organization-wide. This includes developing and maintaining standards for various public agencies, such as departments of transportation (DOTs) and other public clients. Additionally, you will train and mentor CAD users on core application skills and standards. As the CAD Systems Manager, you will also assess workflows, recommend process improvements, and work closely with IT to upgrade and maintain Autodesk Products and Add-ins.

Lochmueller Group is a growing engineering consulting firm with an emphasis on infrastructure. We provide multi-disciplined services for a variety of public agencies and private entities, including transportation design; water resources design; environmental analysis & permitting; construction engineering & inspection; traffic engineering & transportation planning; surveying; and land acquisition & appraisal.

For over 40 years, Lochmueller Group has helped communities reinvent their future through thoughtful, actionable planning and design. Our dedication to building a team that demonstrates our corporate values (CARDIA) is what sets us apart:

This is a great place to build a career and grow with a company that is dedicated to quality and service.

Key responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Standards Development and Management: Develop, implement, and maintain AutoCAD and Civil 3D standards, workflows, and best practices for modeling and plan production across multiple states. Create and support standards for departments of transportation and other public-agency clients. Maintain Civil 3D templates, styles, workspaces, tool palettes, plot styles, and configuration files to ensure consistency across projects and offices. Develop a layer manager file to standardize utility colors for transportation projects, and collaborate with survey teams to establish separate base files for right-of-way, property lines, easements, and section lines.
  • Training and Mentorship: Participating in the development and delivery of training for CAD users on core Civil 3D application skills, standards, and workflows. Providing ongoing mentorship and support to CAD users to enhance proficiency and adherence to standards. Developing and maintaining technical documentation, standards manuals, deployment documentation, training materials, and user guides.
  • Workflow Analysis and Optimization: Analyzing current CAD workflows to identify areas for improvement. Recommending and implementing process enhancements to increase efficiency and project consistency. Collaborating with project teams to streamline CAD- and GIS-related workflows and tools.
  • Collaboration and System Maintenance: Collaborate with IT to coordinate upgrades, installations, maintenance, deployment testing, and troubleshooting for Autodesk products and add-ins. Support Autodesk user and license management, and collaborate with the Engineering Applications Manager on software licensing, budgeting, procurement, and strategic technology initiatives. Work with project managers and design teams to support efficient project delivery, and participate in production work as needed to maintain current application knowledge and practical skills.
  • Technology Strategy and Software Evaluation: Evaluate Autodesk products, add-ins, and emerging design technologies through software reviews, pilot programs, and other technology initiatives. Recommend appropriate adoption, implementation, standardization, and long-term support strategies for design technology platforms.
  • Automation: Develop and maintain workflow automations using AutoLISP, Visual LISP, Dynamo, or other programming languages.
  • May perform other duties associated with this role.

Qualifications for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, computer science, or a related field. Equivalent training and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 10+ years of relevant CAD systems or civil design experience, including demonstrated expert-level knowledge of Civil 3D administration, standards, and production workflows.
  • Autodesk Revit, Bentley ProjectWise, and OpenRoads Designer experience is a plus.
  • Proven leadership in guiding multidisciplinary design teams, coordinating priorities, and supporting consistent adoption of CAD standards and workflows.
  • Demonstrated track record of supporting timely, consistent project delivery through effective CAD standards, quality controls, and production workflows.
  • Expertise in developing, documenting, implementing, and governing CAD and design standards across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience planning and managing software evaluations, pilot programs, implementations, deployments, upgrades, and ongoing application support.
  • Experience administering software entitlements, user assignments, renewals, and licensing compliance in a multi-user environment.
  • Proficiency in deploying, configuring, patching, upgrading, and troubleshooting a diverse portfolio of Autodesk applications and add-ins.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
