The posting

TL;DR: We're looking for someone to own technical accounting and reporting at Lovable as we build toward being a generational company. You'll be the person who works out the right US GAAP answer on the questions that matter, writes it down so an auditor can rely on it, and turns it into reporting that would stand up to scrutiny. You'll report to our Group Financial Controller. This is a builder's role: there is a lot to set up, and you'll do much of it yourself.

Why Lovable?

Lovable is the software creation platform that gives people the power to act on the problems closest to them. For decades, turning an idea into software required so much capital, technical fluency, and time that many ideas never came to life. Lovable is the counterargument: a platform for all people with ideas, ambition, and problems worth solving. From solopreneurs to small business owners to teams at companies like Adidas and Zendesk, people have built over 60 million projects on Lovable since its launch in November 2024. And we’re just getting started.

We’re building a generational company from Stockholm, with growing teams in London, Boston, New York, and San Francisco. Our team is small, talent-dense, and moving quickly, with a culture rooted in extreme ownership, high velocity, and low-ego collaboration. We look for people who care deeply, ship fast, and are eager to make a dent in the world.

Lovable is one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies and has been recognized on the Forbes AI 50 and CNBC Disruptor 50, reflecting our momentum as one of Europe’s fastest-growing AI companies and one of the most ambitious places to build in this next era of software.

The role

Lovable's business model raises real accounting questions. We sell subscriptions and usage-based credits to millions of self-serve users and to enterprise customers, through our own billing, app stores and payment processors. We buy a lot of AI compute. We have US, Swedish and UK entities and we report under US GAAP. Most of these questions have been answered at a point in time. They need proper answers, written down, and kept current as the business changes, without slowing the business down to get there.

You'll own that. Stock-based compensation, leases, LLM commitments, consolidation and foreign currency, M&A accounting and whatever comes next as we launch new products and features. You'll own the accounting policies, the position papers and the relationship with our auditors on technical matters.

You'll also own external reporting: building the financial statements, disclosures and reporting calendar we'll need as a public company, well before we need them, and doing it in a way that is as automated as possible. We expect you to leverage AI to draft disclosures, tie out numbers and flag changes. You'll decide where that's safe and where a person has to own the judgment.

You'll report to our Group Financial Controller, and work closely with our head of Revenue Accounting and our Chief Accounting Officer, on the significant judgments.

What we’re looking for

Must have

- Deep US GAAP expertise, with ASC 842 for leases and ASC 718 for Stock Based Compensation as a strength. You've written position papers that auditors have accepted on complex matters.

- Big 4 background, ideally including exposure to national office, accounting advisory or SEC reporting work, followed by in-house experience at a technology company.

- Has built or materially upgraded an external reporting process: financial statements, disclosures, tie-outs and the calendar behind them.

- Can explain a complex accounting conclusion to an engineer or a product manager in plain English, and change their mind when the facts warrant it.

- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and building an AI first function from the ground up.

- Pragmatic about applying accounting guidance to minimize operational overhead.

Nice to have

- Has operated in a hypergrowth environment, including ideally through an IPO or the first year as a public company, ie. S-1 or 10-K preparation and SOX implementation.

- Experience with AI, cloud or consumption-based business models and their revenue and cost accounting.

- Experience with IFRS and Swedish or UK statutory reporting.

- Has leveraged AI tools to draft disclosures, research guidance or automate tie-outs, and has views on where they help and where they're dangerous.

This role isn't for you if

- You want a team and an established process on day one.

- You prefer to be asked for an opinion rather than go and find the questions yourself.

- You'd rather write a perfect memo in 2 weeks than a good answer in two hours.

- You see AI as a threat to technical accounting rather than a tool for doing it better.

What you’ll do

- Own technical accounting at Lovable: research the questions, reach a defensible US GAAP conclusion, and write position papers that hold up with auditors.

- Own technical accounting for AI compute and cost of revenue, stock-based compensation, leases, consolidation and foreign currency, and any new areas as they arise.

- Write and maintain the accounting policy manual, and make sure the close team is applying it consistently.

- Build the external reporting function: US GAAP consolidated financial statements, footnote disclosures, a reporting calendar and tie-out process that would meet public-company standards.

- Own local statutory accounting and reporting for our Swedish and UK entities, ensuring the books comply with Swedish GAAP (K3) and UK GAAP (FRS 102), including local GAAP adjustments, statutory financial statements and reconciliations to US GAAP.

- Collaborate with the wider accounting team reviewing the month-end close figures to ensure any adjustments are identified promptly and remediation measures put in place.

- Be the point person coordinating the external audit: present significant judgments, new standards, complex transactions and prepare future audit committee-facing materials.

- Assess new accounting standards and SEC requirements and plan our adoption.

- Leverage AI tooling to draft, tie out and review, and set the standard for where human judgment is required.

- Drive public-company readiness across accounting and reporting, including disclosure controls and SOX requirements.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
