Day in the Life Put your electronic skills to work keeping Central Florida moving. As a Transit Bus Electronics Technician also known as Technician C - Electronics with LYNX, you'll troubleshoot, repair, and maintain the onboard technology that supports reliable service and keeps passengers informed and connected. You'll work with fareboxes, destination signs, vehicle location systems, passenger counters, announcement systems, radios, and video recording equipment. Through preventative maintenance, diagnostics testing, and field repairs, you'll help keep our fleet ready for the road. This position does require a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger (P) endorsement. This position is considered safety-sensitive and subject to the provisions of the Substance Abuse Program Policy for Safety Sensitive Positions. Shifts: Must be willing and able to work any and all shifts below as LYNX is a 24/7 operation and this will include weekends and holidays:
4:00am to 2:30pm 6:00am to 2:30pm 6:00pm to 4:30am ($2.00 Shift Differential)
Essential Functions:
Completes scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance on all electronic systems, subassemblies and control devices. Inspects, diagnoses, removes, and repairs electronic systems, equipment and devices. Determines the source of trouble. Repairs or replaces defective parts or makes changes as instructed. Uses testing equipment (meters, oscilloscopes, test bench and mock-up). Refers difficult or unusual problems to higher-grade technicians for guidance or repair. Executes field repairs on road failures as needed. Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED plus one year of experience in the electronic repair field plus one year of technical school training in electronics; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Electronic Technician Degree helpful. Must possess and maintain a current Florida CDL permit/license, Class “B” with a Passenger endorsement and Airbrakes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge of electronics to perform inspections, diagnosis, removal and repair of equipment and systems. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to drive buses, trucks, non-revenue vehicles and equipment into the shop, line and yard. Ability to physically bend, stoop, walk, kneel, stretch, and lift fifty (50) pounds. Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen. Ability to work as a team player. Ability to read electrical wiring diagrams and schematics. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Ability to work days, nights, weekends and holidays. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work with commercial cleaners and toxic materials. Ability to work in open bays, inside buses and inside test and repair room. Ability to provide own basic tool set. Ability to communicate in English on the work site. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor. Ability to work in a diverse environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with those encountered in the course of work using principles of excellent service.
Work Environment and Special Considerations:
Employees in this position must comply with all requirements of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regarding the testing of safety sensitive employees. This position is considered safety-sensitive under FTA drug and alcohol regulations (49 CFR Part 655). LYNX provides the community with much needed public transportation, and it is important for the Agency to resume its services as quickly and as safely as possible in the event of any natural, technological, or human-caused emergency or disaster. This position is considered a mission critical member of LYNX’s emergency preparation and response efforts during an emergency or disaster and as such, requires 24-hour availability in the event of an emergency or disaster.
