Overview

Join a highly visible engineering team responsible for the technology that powers M&T Bank's ATM and TCR ecosystem, supporting millions of customer transactions annually. As a Technical Engineer IV supporting ATM and TCR technologies, you will serve as a technical specialist and senior engineering resource across the platforms, applications, and infrastructure that enable critical customer-facing banking services.

This role works at the intersection of systems engineering, automation, application deployment, infrastructure design, platform support, and customer experience. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and enhancing vendor-provided ATM and TCR software platforms and related technologies, while providing technical direction for complex initiatives and helping establish engineering standards and best practices across the environment.

While this is not a traditional software engineering role focused on building applications from scratch, the position requires advanced technical expertise and the ability to evaluate complex systems, develop automation solutions, lead technical troubleshooting, influence platform design, and translate business and functional requirements into reliable technology solutions.

One of the most unique aspects of this role is the ability to see the direct impact of your work. Whether leading a platform upgrade, deploying new ATM functionality, improving a customer-facing experience, strengthening platform stability and security, or introducing automation across the environment, your contributions will directly influence a technology channel used by customers every day.

This is an excellent opportunity for highly experienced systems engineers, technical engineers, infrastructure engineers, platform engineers, and systems administrators who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, providing technical leadership, working with modern automation technologies, and developing deep expertise in a highly specialized area of financial services technology.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Technology management, senior engineers, support teams, business partners, and vendors to design, develop, implement, and manage technical solutions that meet current and future needs of the organization.
  • Serve as a technical specialist for ATM/TCR platforms and related technologies, providing technical direction and expertise for complex engineering initiatives, platform enhancements, upgrades, and production issues.
  • Lead and contribute to infrastructure architecture and design, research and development of new or expanded systems, creation of technology standards and policies, analysis of user requirements and operational constraints, system integration testing, and user acceptance testing.
  • Independently evaluate complex business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable, reliable, secure, and supportable technology solutions.
  • Regularly and independently interact with business partners of varying associate and management levels to ensure clarity of problems and opportunities, elicit business requirements, and recommend appropriate technical solutions.
  • Lead and coordinate technical interactions with ATM/TCR technology vendors and vendor resources, including evaluation of proposed solutions, troubleshooting, upgrades, enhancements, and implementation activities.
  • Design, deploy, install, configure, maintain, and support vendor-provided ATM/TCR applications and associated enterprise technology platforms.
  • Provide technical leadership for software deployments, vulnerability remediation, patch management, platform upgrades, lifecycle activities, and initiatives designed to improve operational stability and resilience.
  • Design, develop, and enhance automation solutions supporting software installation, deployment, configuration, monitoring, maintenance, and operational processes.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex infrastructure, application, integration, and platform issues across multiple interconnected systems, and recommend long-term remediation strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the reliability, scalability, security, maintainability, and customer experience of ATM/TCR technology platforms.
  • Evaluate new technologies, vendor capabilities, platform enhancements, and engineering approaches and provide recommendations based on technical and business requirements.
  • Develop and maintain technical architecture, engineering, implementation, support, and operational documentation.
  • Establish, follow, and promote engineering standards, industry best practices, technical procedures, and repeatable processes across supported technologies.
  • Mentor and coach less experienced engineers, technicians, and integrators. Review technical documentation, designs, proposals, implementations, and changes proposed by less experienced staff.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
