About the role
We are building a unified global employment function spanning key regions, including Ukraine, Cyprus, the US, Spain, and the UK. Currently distributed across HR, Legal, and Finance, these critical processes are being consolidated into a single, high-impact domain led by our new Employment Lead.
In this role, you will define and spearhead our international employment framework — setting high compliance standards, mitigating global risks, and architecting scalable operations from onboarding to offboarding. Leading a dedicated team and collaborating closely with Legal, Finance, and HR, you will have a unique opportunity to build a modern, scalable function from the ground up rather than managing a legacy framework.
In this role, you will:
- Audit the current employment administration function in Ukraine and map the company's obligations across all jurisdictions of presence: Ukraine, the US, Spain, and Cyprus
- Identify and close the most critical compliance gaps, with a written risk assessment for each
- Standardize employment lifecycle documentation and processes, from hire to exit
- Build a system for monitoring legislative changes across all jurisdictions, with clear decision owners
- Design the employment process for a new country so it no longer requires ad hoc coordination across several teams
- Take over the Ukraine team and define clear boundaries: what the function handles in-house, what escalates to the internal legal team, and what goes to external counsel
- Manage the direct team
Skills you’ll need to bring:
- 5+ years in employment administration, employment law, or people operations, with ownership of compliance in at least one jurisdiction
- Strong command of Ukrainian labor law, including wartime changes, and practical experience with reservation and military registration
- Exposure to US employment compliance (federal + state) or EU jurisdictions, especially Spain or Cyprus
- Experience managing a team and owning a function end-to-end
- Ability to research an unfamiliar jurisdiction, frame the right question, brief external counsel, and turn the answer into a working process
- Process design mindset: turning ad hoc, person-dependent work into documented, scalable standards
- Risk assessment and prioritization
- English at a level sufficient for working with US and EU counsel and vendors (B2+)
As a plus:
- Experience with EOR/PEO providers and the entity-vs-EOR decision
- Labor law experience
- Experience supporting international expansion into a new country from scratch
- Familiarity with HRIS and document automation tools
