Job Description

Be Part of an Amazing Story

Macy’s is more than just a store. We’re a story. One that’s captured the hearts and minds of America for more than 160 years. A story about innovations and traditions…about inspiring stores and irresistible products…about the excitement of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, and the wonder of the Thanksgiving Day Parade. We’ve been part of memorable moments and milestones for countless customers and colleagues. Those stories are part of what makes this such a special place to work.

Job Overview

As a Maintenance Mechanic II, you'll be at the center of what keeps our operation running smoothly. From material handling equipment and powered equipment to facility systems and building structures, you'll troubleshoot issues, perform preventive maintenance, and help ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.

This is a hands-on role where no two days look exactly the same. You'll take on mechanical and electrical challenges, complete daily inspections, respond to maintenance needs, and support larger projects with your team. Your work helps reduce downtime, improve reliability, and support productivity across the operation.

If you enjoy solving equipment challenges, working with a variety of systems, and making a visible impact every day, this role offers the opportunity to continue growing your technical skills and maintenance expertise. Every repair, adjustment, and improvement you make helps keep the business moving.

How Our Colleagues Spend Their Day…

  • Our colleagues create genuine connections by starting every interaction with warmth and sincerity. They know that hospitality is a feeling—shown through a smile, a kind word, and intentional conversations that build trust and lasting relationships.
  • When mistakes happen, they apologize authentically listening with empathy, valuing the customer's experience, and committing to making things right.
  • They take the time to truly understand customer needs before acting. They take ownership in every situation, being proactive in finding solutions, offering helpful resources, and communicating clearly and confidently.
  • Their full attention is always on the customer. To reassure customers, they follow through with clarity and consistency, delivering on promises and making things right when expectations aren't met.
  • They know that excellence is shown by focusing on what matters most to the customer.

What To Expect

  • Work hands-on with equipment, systems, and facility maintenance needs in a fast-paced operations environment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues that help keep the operation running safely and efficiently.
  • Document work, parts usage, and repair needs using maintenance systems.
  • Partner with leaders, vendors, and team members to resolve maintenance issues.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair material handling equipment, including conveyors, sorters, and related systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and daily inspections of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components.
  • Dismantle, inspect, repair, replace, assemble, and test equipment and parts to confirm proper operation.
  • Maintain machines, tools, equipment, and facility systems through routine repairs, lubrication, cleaning, and basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or welding support.
  • Use maintenance systems to track repairs, parts usage, equipment needs, and vendor support.
  • Follow safe work practices, report concerns, and help maintain a safe and respectful workplace.

Skills That Matter

Must Have

  • Minimum 2 years of direct maintenance experience, commercial or industrial maintenance-related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret employment policies, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals in English.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, customers, office staff, receiving teams, fleet maintenance administration, management, carriers, and drivers.
  • Basic computer and handheld technology skills, including the ability to use maintenance systems to document work.
  • Resourceful self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working with conveyors, sorters, automated warehouse systems, or other material handling equipment.
  • Experience performing basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, or facility maintenance tasks.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems and parts documentation.

Physical Activities You Will Perform

  • This role involves performing essential job functions such as communication, collaboration, and use of office and computer systems.
  • Responsibilities include the ability to access and review written and electronic information, and to move within the work environment and interact with workplace materials as needed to carry out job responsibilities.
  • Frequently lift/move up to 10lbs.
  • Requires close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
