The posting

The Senior Manager, HCB Training Design & Enablement is responsible for designing scalable learning and performance solutions that enable team members, leaders, and future franchise operators to successfully operate a Madison Reed Hair Color Bar (HCB).

This role serves as the HCB organization’s lead instructional designer and learning architect, translating business priorities, operating standards, technical expertise, and guest experience expectations into practical, engaging learning experiences.

This is a highly building and hands-on role, not an oversight role. The Senior Manager sets the design standard for HCB learning and holds it by working in the material: making the architecture decisions, then personally producing the highest-stakes onboarding programs, instructor-led and digital learning, assessments, certifications, facilitator resources, job aids, and performance-support tools rather than briefing them out. This role also owns the HCB learning technology experience and management of the LMS for the HCB population.

Reporting to VP, HCB Operations Services & Training, the Senior Manager helps shape field communication and enablement approaches for key HCB initiatives, leads the HCB Communications & Operations Specialist and partners closely with the Director, HCB Field Training, HCB Operations, Field Operations, Franchise, Marketing, People & Culture, Technology, and subject-matter experts.

The base salary range for this position is between 120,000 and 125,000, is full time and exempt, and is expected to travel less than 25% of the time, including but not limited to Hair Color Bars, company events, and meetings.

At Madison Reed, we aim to pay competitively. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities

Learning Strategy, Design & Development

  • Own the HCB learning architecture and develop role-based learning journeys for key HCB positions.
  • Lead the redesign and standardization of HCB onboarding, including District Manager, General Manager and frontline role onboarding.
  • Personally design and develop high-priority in-person, virtual, and digital learning solutions from concept through implementation.
  • Translate subject-matter expertise into clear learning objectives, practice, assessments, facilitator resources, and performance-support tools.
  • Diagnose business and performance gaps to determine when training, communication, process changes, or other solutions are needed.
  • Design scalable onboarding, training, certification, and train-the-trainer solutions for future franchise owners and operators, partnering with Franchise, Legal, Marketing, Operations, and other stakeholders to ensure learning supports Madison Reed HCB standards and the evolving franchise model.
  • Partner with Director of Field Training to ensure Denovo field training and existing in hub field training programs are aligned with training principles and delivery architecture
  • Deliver scalable practical, engaging solutions to our fast-moving field organization using adult-learning principles, AI, and learning technology.

Assessment, Certification & Scalable Learning

  • Design HCB assessment and certification frameworks, including proficiency criteria, assessment tools, certification processes, and supporting resources, in partnership with Field Capability, People and Culture, and cross-functional SMEs.
  • Deliver learning consistently and at scale through the design of train-the-trainer programs that enable field leaders and future franchise trainers.
  • Design and maintain standardized learning journeys and tools that support new HCB openings and role readiness.
  • Establish measures that connect learning, proficiency, certification, and field performance, using results and field feedback to continuously improve learning solutions.

LMS, Learning Technology & Content Governance

  • Own the HCB LMS experience, including curriculum structure, learning paths, reporting, content standards, and learner experience.
  • Lead HCB requirements for LMS enhancements and future learning technology needs, including franchise requirements.
  • Partner with People & Culture and Technology on shared platform governance, integrations, enterprise requirements and day-to-day administration.
  • Own HCB learning-content governance, maintenance, and version control.

Field Enablement & Communications

  • Partner with HCB Operations and Field Leadership to develop integrated training, communications, tools, and performance support for major launches, programs, and operational changes.
  • Partner with the Director, HCB Field Capability & Guest Experience to translate field and guest insights into effective learning and enablement solutions.
  • Establish standards and best practices for HCB field communications, including channels, cadence, and effectiveness.
  • Lead and develop the HCB Communications & Operations Specialist.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in instructional design, Learning & Development, field learning, or capability development.
  • Deep hands-on instructional-design experience required, with demonstrated examples of personally designed learning solutions.
  • Experience designing onboarding, assessments, certification, and/or train-the-trainer programs.
  • Experience supporting frontline teams in multi-unit retail, hospitality, beauty, service, or another distributed field organization strongly preferred.
  • Strong LMS and learning-technology experience.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to connect learning solutions to operational performance.
  • Franchise training or enablement experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with digital authoring and AI-enabled learning-development tools.
  • Strong project management, communication, and cross-functional partnership skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Must live within a one-hour drive from an existing Madison Reed Hair Color Bar.

Key Competencies

  • Hands-on builder — comfortable moving from strategy to personally creating the solution.
  • Business-minded problem solver — diagnoses the business need rather than assuming training is always the answer.
  • Systems thinker — connects learning, communications, tools, technology, and field execution.
  • Strong executor — manages multiple priorities and consistently delivers high-quality work on time.
  • Collaborative partner — works effectively with SMEs, Operations, Field Leadership, People, Franchise, and other partners.
  • Clear communicator — simplifies complex information and influences stakeholders effectively.
  • Technology and AI-forward — actively uses technology to improve learning, productivity, and scalability.
  • Highly accountable and adaptable — takes ownership, follows through, and operates effectively in a fast-moving environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
