APM Terminals

Join APM Terminals

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be a part of our journey.

About the Role

We are looking for a (Senior) Cost Estimating Lead to strengthen how we develop, validate and benchmark capital investment estimates across our global portfolio of terminal developments, expansions and infrastructure projects.

This role combines hands-on CAPEX estimating with the opportunity to develop smarter, more consistent estimating methods, leveraging digital tools, data analytics and AI-enabled solutions.

You will work closely with engineering, procurement, finance and project delivery teams to provide reliable cost insights that support investment decisions from early project development through approval.

We welcome experienced estimating professionals as well as emerging specialists ready to take broader ownership. Experience in ports or marine infrastructure is valuable, but we also encourage applications from candidates in other capital-intensive industries who bring strong technical estimating capabilities and an interest in developing new approaches.

What We Can Offer

At APM Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement means every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers by continuously refining how we work. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

  • Contribute to major international infrastructure investments across our global terminal portfolio.
  • Help shape digital estimating capabilities, including AI-supported benchmarking and automation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary specialists across engineering, procurement and project delivery.
  • Develop your expertise while contributing to a stronger global cost estimating practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop CAPEX estimates: Prepare and assure cost estimates from early conceptual stages through investment approval, ensuring transparent assumptions, appropriate accuracy and traceability.
  • Strengthen estimating methodologies: Develop and improve cost models, templates, estimating procedures and structured cost databases.
  • Advance digital innovation: Explore and implement data analytics, automation and responsible AI-supported solutions to improve estimating efficiency and consistency.
  • Build benchmarking capabilities: Use historical project costs, contractor quotations and market intelligence to develop reliable benchmarks and identify cost drivers.
  • Provide commercial insights: Review contractor and consultant estimates, challenge assumptions and support value engineering, investment comparisons and cost optimisation.
  • Collaborate across functions: Integrate engineering, procurement, finance and project delivery inputs into comprehensive, defensible estimates.
  • Drive continuous improvement: Support estimate reviews, share technical knowledge and contribute to the development of a consistent global estimating framework.

What We Are Looking For

  • Continuous improvement mindset: We are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Leadership expectation: We are looking for people who consistently put customers first, lead by example with respect for people, deliver results with integrity, and drive continuous improvement by solving problems at the root, developing people, and raising standards every day.
  • Relevant experience: Practical experience in cost estimating, cost engineering, quantity surveying, commercial management or project controls within capital-intensive projects.
  • Technical expertise: Hands-on experience developing CAPEX estimates, cost models, benchmarking databases and estimating workflows, with an understanding of cost structures, risk and project economics.
  • Digital capabilities: Confidence working with estimating systems and data, alongside an interest in analytics, automation and AI-enabled estimating solutions.
  • Educational background: A degree in engineering, quantity surveying, construction economics, commercial management or a related discipline. Professional accreditation is advantageous but not essential.
  • Collaborative approach: Strong analytical thinking, commercial awareness and the ability to communicate complex cost information clearly across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
