Job Summary:

MaineGeneral Health is seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Human Resources Officer to lead the organization's people and workforce strategy. Reporting directly to the President and CEO and serving as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CHRO will provide executive leadership across the Human Resources function while partnering closely with clinical, operational and administrative leaders throughout the health system.

MaineGeneral is an independent, community-based health system serving Central Maine. As the organization advances its five-year strategic plan, the CHRO will play a critical role in strengthening MaineGeneral's position as an employer of choice, developing the workforce and leadership capabilities needed for the future, and ensuring people strategies remain closely aligned with organizational priorities.

The CHRO will lead the continued development and execution of an integrated people strategy across talent acquisition and workforce planning, talent and leadership development, employee relations, total rewards, HR operations and technology, employee engagement, organizational development, and HR compliance.

This leader will inherit significant work already underway across MaineGeneral's Workforce & Culture strategy, including employee engagement and retention, leadership development and succession planning, Total Rewards, and development of sustainable workforce pipelines. The CHRO will also serve as a key executive partner as MaineGeneral navigates significant organizational and technological transformation, including implementation of Epic.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the President and CEO, Senior Leadership Team and organizational leaders on workforce, culture, organizational effectiveness and people strategy.
  • Translate MaineGeneral's strategic priorities into an integrated Human Resources and workforce strategy with measurable organizational outcomes.
  • Provide executive leadership across talent acquisition, workforce planning, talent management, leadership development, employee relations, Total Rewards, HR operations and technology, employee engagement, and organizational development.
  • Advance MaineGeneral's employee engagement and retention strategy, partnering with leaders to strengthen communication, collaboration, accountability and the overall employee experience.
  • Continue development of an integrated leadership strategy encompassing leadership competencies, development, talent review and succession planning.
  • Lead workforce planning and sustainable talent pipeline strategies that anticipate future workforce needs and strengthen access to critical and hard-to-fill talent.
  • Advance a competitive and financially sustainable Total Rewards strategy that supports recruitment, retention and employee experience.
  • Partner with executive and operational leaders through organizational transformation, including workforce restructuring, change management and workforce readiness associated with Epic implementation.
  • Strengthen the use of workforce data, analytics and technology to identify trends, evaluate outcomes and inform organizational decisions.
  • Develop and lead a high-performing HR leadership team capable of translating strategy into effective execution.
  • Ensure HR policies, practices and programs support regulatory compliance, organizational consistency and effective workforce management.
  • Champion MaineGeneral's culture and values while helping the organization evolve to meet the changing needs of its workforce, patients and communities.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will bring significant progressive Human Resources leadership experience within a complex organization, preferably within health care or another highly regulated, workforce-intensive environment. Experience as a CHRO, Chief People Officer, SVP/VP of Human Resources, or senior HR executive with broad functional responsibility will be considered.

Competitive candidates will demonstrate:

  • Significant progressive HR leadership experience with enterprise or major operating-unit responsibility.
  • Experience partnering directly with CEOs, Presidents, Boards and senior executive teams.
  • Broad executive-level knowledge across the major Human Resources disciplines.
  • Demonstrated success developing workforce, talent, engagement and organizational strategies tied to business priorities.
  • Experience leading significant organizational change and transformation.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop leadership capability and strengthen succession and talent pipelines.
  • Experience using workforce data and analytics to inform executive decision-making.
  • Strong executive presence, judgment and the ability to build credibility across clinical, operational and administrative leadership.
  • Experience developing and leading high-performing HR teams and strengthening HR capabilities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
