The posting

As the DEV Community Manager, you'll be the day-to-day steward of the DEV (dev.to) community. You'll spend your time on the platform, get to know its most engaged members, keep the experience welcoming and high quality, and make sure people get fast, thoughtful help when they need it.

This role is for a DEV power user who wants to make it their job. You'll represent the community's needs inside MLH, bring strong judgment to content and engagement, build connections between the MLH and DEV communities, and help DEV keep being a place developers want to show up.

What You’ll Do

  • Live on DEV: Be active on the platform every day - reading, commenting, reacting, and posting, and build a deep understanding of how it works, its culture, and its most engaged members.
  • Moderation: Own moderation on DEV, setting the standard for what belongs on the platform and making the final call on tough cases. Recruit, support, and work alongside our volunteer moderators to keep the community safe, welcoming, and high quality.
  • Community Support: Monitor and manage community support channels and inboxes so members get prompt, thoughtful responses.
  • Listen and Route: Spot influential contributors, recurring concerns, and emerging community issues. Route feedback, bug reports, feature requests, and escalations to the right internal teams.
  • Source New Contributors: Work with popular and prolific technical writers from across the developer ecosystem to bring their insights to the DEV platform.
  • Monitor External Community Platforms: Oversee or support our presence on Reddit and other relevant channels.
  • Content Curation: Curate the best of the community through editorial roundups, newsletters, and email marketing.
  • Editorial Judgment: Recognize valuable contributions, elevate quality content, and keep a consistent brand tone and voice.
  • AI-Assisted Work: Use AI tools to speed up community and content work, and apply your own taste, context, and quality control to the final output.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary (range is posted above)
  • Stock options
  • Medical, dental, vision benefits and 401K
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Travel opportunities

About MLH

Major League Hacking's (MLH) mission is to empower hackers. Each year over 100,000 young technologists and innovators around the world attend MLH events and join our community. Our events provide a self-driven environment where community members learn from each other outside the confines of traditional academia. The MLH team grew out of this movement and is dedicated to making it accessible to the entire world.

Earlier this year, we acquired DEV (dev.to), an online community for software developers. Our combined ecosystem now supports millions of creators at every stage of their journey.

  • We’re a team of 20 full-time people primarily based on the US East Coast (mostly NYC) with team members in Louisville, London, and India, to name a few.
  • Our co-founders, Swift and Jon, were recognized for their work in education by Forbes in the 2017 30 Under 30 list.
  • We work with some of the top technology brands like Google Gemini, ElevenLabs, Cloudflare, and more, to help them reach our community and get the latest and greatest tools into their hands.
  • We have a group of world-class investors including General Catalyst, Alexis Ohanian (Reddit), Jeff Lawson (Twilio), and Sundance DiGiovanni (Major League Gaming).
  • We are a mission driven B Corp, committed to responsibly serving the world and our community.

Who You Are

  • Active in the DEV Community: You're an active, established member of DEV, with a history of contributing to and engaging on the platform. You understand DEV's culture, its members, and what makes community content feel authentic. A DEV profile with established history is required for this role.
  • A Discord Operator: You've gone beyond participating in Discord communities. You've moderated, set up bots, built automations, or helped run a server.
  • Comfortable Across Community Platforms: You know your way around Reddit and other online communities.
  • A Clear, Polished Writer You write and edit well, and you have strong instincts for curating content.
  • GitHub-Literate: You understand the lifecycle of a community-reported issue, from report to fix.
  • Level-Headed in Gray Areas: You make good calls in ambiguous situations, like moderation decisions, content concerns, and support escalations.
  • AI Fluent: You use AI tools as a starting point, then improve, curate, and adapt what they produce.

Please note: This role works closely with team members in and around New York, but we’re open to candidates in any location. You’ll need at least four hours of overlap with US Eastern Time each workday. If that works for you and you’re excited about the role, we’d love to see your application!

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?
