The posting
We are seeking a detail-oriented Manufacturing Estimator to join our fast-paced facility in Worcester, MA. In this position, your primary focus will be estimating production requirements for tight-tolerance components within custom plastics manufacturing. Utilizing established solid cost modeling techniques alongside modern ERP and MRP platforms, you will review incoming engineering packages, evaluate CAD/CAM models, and process RFQ's from initial receipt to final proposal. The ideal candidate brings dedicated hands-on experience in CNC machining methods, tooling evaluation, and cycle-time analysis to deliver profitable, rapid quoting on all custom plastic parts.
Benefits and Compensation
Competitive Pay: $70-$95k/hr DOE to start! If you are transitioning from another HR Coordinator role, we offer great starting rates for our 1st shift hours.
Comprehensive Benefits: Includes premium health insurance (medical, dental, vision) and eligibility for an incentive recognition bonus program.
Responsibilities Include
- Drive the end-to-end quoting cycle for engineered polymer parts, working directly with CAD/CAM software to examine complex part geometries and tolerances.
- Analyze incoming RFQ's and technical documentation to establish precise material yield, cycle times, and secondary finishing operations for specialized plastics.
- Apply proven solid cost modeling methodologies across all tooling, run-time, and setup variables to maintain strong margins in custom manufacturing.
- Partner closely with Sales, Engineering, Production, and Purchasing to convert customer prints into actionable job structures within our plant ERP system.
- Maintain bill of materials (BOMs) and standard routings in our MRP database to reflect real-time raw resin pricing and shop-floor scheduling.
- Lead project kick-offs for new CNC milling, turning, and routing work, ensuring all shop-floor expectations match quoted assumptions.
Skills and Qualifications
- 2–5+ years of hands-on technical estimating background centered around precision CNC components and machine shop environments.
- Practical knowledge of engineered plastics (e.g., PEEK, Delrin, UHMW, PTFE, acrylics) and how their properties impact cutting parameters, feed rates, and fixture designs.
- Demonstrated track record responding to complex customer RFQ's with speed and structural precision.
- High proficiency reading 2D blueprints, GD&T symbols, and interrogating 3D files inside modern CAD/CAM environments.
- Working familiarity with integrated enterprise resource platforms, specifically entering and maintaining work orders in an ERP or MRP environment.
- Deep experience building reliable quotes with solid cost modeling spreadsheets and commercial estimating software.
- Associate degree or technical trade certification in advanced manufacturing, mechanical design, or related machining discipline is preferred.
