Business Consultant

Insurance, Worksite, & Institutional Technology

Full Time, Springfield MA (Hybrid)

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Business Systems Analyst to support systems requirements and solution definition across insurance product development programs. This Business Systems Analyst role will partner with Product, Operations, Architecture, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Delivery, and vendor teams to translate business objectives into clear, actionable requirements that support the successful delivery of new and enhanced insurance products.

The Team

The Insurance, Worksite, & Institutional Technology organization supports the technology capabilities required to design, launch, enhance, and service insurance products across Life, Annuity, Disability, and related product lines. The team works across policy administration, new business and underwriting, illustrations, product rules and calculations, data integrations, digital experiences, correspondence, reporting, and downstream operational platforms. The Business Systems Analyst will contribute to successful delivery by producing high-quality requirements, clarifying system impacts, supporting solution alignment, and helping reduce downstream rework.

The Impact

This position is accountable for analyzing business needs, documenting systems requirements, supporting solution definition, and ensuring requirements are clear, testable, and aligned to product development outcomes. The role supports cross-functional initiatives from discovery through implementation by helping teams understand current-state processes, future-state needs, system impacts, dependencies, data considerations, and acceptance criteria. Success requires strong analytical skills, insurance domain knowledge, collaboration, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively across business and technology stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Elicit and document requirements: Work with business SMEs, product owners, technology teams, and vendors to gather, analyze, document, validate, and maintain business and systems requirements for insurance product development initiatives.
  • Translate business needs into system-ready detail: Convert product strategies, business rules, product specifications, operational needs, and regulatory considerations into clear business requirements, functional requirements, user stories, use cases, process flows, interface needs, data requirements, and acceptance criteria.
  • Analyze system and process impacts: Assess upstream, downstream, data, integration, operational, reporting, and customer experience impacts across the insurance technology ecosystem.
  • Support solution definition: Partner with solution architects, product owners, engineering teams, QA, vendors, and platform teams to clarify requirements, evaluate solution options, identify dependencies, document assumptions, and support design decisions.
  • Use AI to improve productivity: Apply AI-enabled tools to accelerate first drafts, improve documentation consistency, summarize requirements inputs, identify potential gaps, and explore practical ways to improve effectiveness across the team while applying appropriate review and quality controls.
  • Facilitate working sessions: Lead or support discovery sessions, requirement reviews, process walkthroughs, design discussions, defect triage conversations, and sign-off preparation with business and technology stakeholders.
  • Manage requirement clarity and change: Identify requirement gaps, ambiguity, conflicts, and scope changes; document impacts and raise risks, issues, decisions, and open questions to the appropriate project or program leads.
  • Support testing and validation: Partner with QA, UAT, business SMEs, and engineering teams to ensure test scenarios and acceptance criteria validate business outcomes and integrated system behavior.
  • Maintain traceability and documentation quality: Keep requirements, decisions, assumptions, dependencies, open items, and acceptance criteria organized, current, and traceable throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Communicate status and risks: Provide concise updates on requirements progress, open questions, risks, decisions needed, and readiness for design, development, testing, and implementation activities.

Primary Deliverables

  • Business requirements and systems requirements documentation for insurance product development programs
  • Functional requirements, user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria, business rules, and process flows
  • Current-state and future-state workflow, data, integration, and system impact documentation
  • Requirement readiness inputs, open-item logs, assumptions, constraints, dependencies, and decision records
  • Impact analysis for scope changes, defects, risks, dependencies, and downstream system impacts
  • Solution-support materials, including options, considerations, tradeoffs, and recommendations for review by project and technical leads
  • UAT and end-to-end testing support artifacts, including scenario inputs, acceptance criteria, and requirement-to-test alignment
  • Concise status updates on requirements progress, risks, decisions, and readiness for design, development, testing, and implementation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in Business Analysis, Business Systems Analysis, Product Analysis, Systems Analysis, or a related technology delivery role.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting insurance technology initiatives, preferably across Life, Annuity, Disability, Underwriting, Policy Administration, Product Administration, Illustrations, Billing, Claims, or related insurance operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive business analysis or business systems analysis experience in a technology delivery environment.
  • Working knowledge of insurance product development processes, product specifications, state filing considerations, regulatory impacts, and product launch readiness.
  • Experience documenting requirements for systems, integrations, vendor platforms, or cross-functional delivery initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of the software delivery lifecycle, including discovery, requirements, architecture and design, development, testing, implementation, and production support.
  • Experience creating business requirements, functional specifications, user stories, use cases, process flows, data needs, interface impacts, and acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to facilitate requirements discussions, resolve ambiguity, ask effective questions, and work collaboratively across business and technology teams.
  • Strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Experience with Agile, hybrid, and waterfall delivery models, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, release planning, and structured governance.
  • Experience with policy administration systems, underwriting platforms, illustrations, product/rules engines, data integrations, correspondence platforms, reporting, or advisor/customer-facing digital capabilities.
  • Experience working with third-party vendors, managed service partners, enterprise shared service teams, and distributed delivery teams.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow, Visio, Miro, Excel, PowerPoint, SQL, or comparable analysis and delivery tools.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
