Position Summary

Material Bank is seeking a Director of Operations to lead our highly automated Olive Branch distribution center. This leader is accountable for end-to-end fulfillment across multiple business lines and a shared inventory of hundreds of thousands of SKUs, including inbound, inventory, picking, packing, shipping, transportation, labor, quality, safety, automation, and supporting systems. The role combines hands-on floor leadership, data-driven decision making, strategic technology initiatives, and development of a strong management team.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Service Delivery

  • Lead multi-shift receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, pre-pack, custom packing, shipping, and returns, ensuring daily order cutoffs and service commitments are met.
  • Oversee fulfillment for member sampling, e-commerce, and third-party logistics (3PL) clients from a shared inventory pool; establish capacity and contingency plans for promotions and peak periods.
  • Lead operational onboarding of Brand Partners and 3PL clients; contribute process design, cost and labor models, launch readiness, and operational inputs to RFPs.
  • Act as a senior operational contact for key partners and clients, resolving service issues and maintaining SLAs.
  • Represent Operations in facility projects, process changes, inventory moves, and new program launches, ensuring operational readiness and minimal disruption.

Inventory, Transportation & Financial Performance

  • Own inbound execution, inventory accuracy, cycle counting, discrepancy resolution, location integrity, and coordination of inbound scheduling, ASNs, and replenishment.
  • Oversee parcel and freight performance, carrier relationships, transportation costs, surcharges, billing accuracy, and cross-border shipping requirements.
  • Own operating budgets, margin targets, cost per unit, labor productivity, and staffing plans by process and shift; manage staffing partner relationships.
  • Prioritize and deliver process and labor improvements with measurable, recurring savings.

Automation, Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead operational use of robotics and automation, including AMRs, and evaluate emerging solutions such as goods-to-person systems.
  • Own operational requirements for WMS and related WES/WCS systems; partner on vendor evaluations, capital business cases, ROI analysis, pilots, and rollouts, holding technology and automation partners accountable for performance.
  • Drive standard work, SOP compliance, process mapping, root-cause analysis, and quality standards across fulfillment processes, packaging, inventory handling, and facility conditions.
  • Maintain a strong safety culture and compliance with OSHA and applicable requirements.

Leadership, Data & Culture

  • Lead, recruit, coach, and develop Operations Managers, Supervisors, Team Leads, and hourly associates across shifts, building leadership depth, engagement, and retention.
  • Establish daily operating rhythms and KPI dashboards covering service, quality, cost, productivity, and safety; use data to drive timely decisions.
  • Promote practical adoption of AI and technology for reporting, analysis, documentation, and operational decision making.
  • Build succession depth and a culture of ownership, accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of experience in distribution, fulfillment, supply chain, or a related field, including 7+ years managing teams, managers, and multi-shift operations.
  • Experience owning operating budgets, cost-per-unit or labor productivity metrics, and high-volume WMS-enabled operations with robotics or automation.
  • Experience managing parcel and freight operations and carrier relationships.
  • Strong analytical capability, advanced Excel skills, and familiarity with BI/reporting tools; openness to AI and emerging technologies.
  • Strong leadership, attention to detail, proactive problem solving, and ability to manage competing priorities in time-sensitive environments.
  • Availability to work nonstandard hours, including peak periods; ability to lift up to 25 pounds regularly.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, Business, or a related field; MBA a plus.
  • Experience in multi-client 3PL, e-commerce, or small-parcel/sample fulfillment.
  • Experience with WMS or automation implementations, vendor RFPs, and capital investment cases.
  • Knowledge of international shipping and customs, especially Canada and the UK.
  • Experience managing staffing agencies or labor partners.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or related continuous improvement training or certification.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
