Job Description
Hospital Internal Medicine (HIM) is one of the largest NP/PA practices at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Our NP/PA hospitalists take pride in practicing at the top of their scope and licensure within a collaborative care model. Clinicians are expected to remain current with evidence-based medicine and to deliver comprehensive care to a medically complex and diverse patient population. NP/PAs participate in all aspects of care for hospitalized patients, including admissions, daily rounding, discharges, and patient and nursing communication and education.
HIM includes a range of medical services specializing in general internal medicine, geriatrics, telemetry, perioperative medicine, medical hematology and oncology, and telemedicine. Staffing models vary across services, enabling physicians, NP/PAs, and Healthcare Support Specialists (HSS) to work collaboratively. Our NP/PAs provide 24/7 coverage, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities.
Beyond clinical practice, many of our NP/PAs hold respected roles within the division and across the institution, with leadership opportunities on quality, research, education, and personnel committees. The division also offers numerous opportunities to collaborate with physician and NP/PA colleagues on publications. In addition, HIM serves as a training site for NP and PA students, Mayo medical students, visiting medical students, residents, and HIM fellows, providing ample opportunities to engage in clinical education.
Ideal candidates bring an extensive medical knowledge base, inpatient medicine experience, and a continual desire to learn and grow as health care providers. New HIM providers receive a comprehensive orientation, including an introduction to the Mayo model of care; hospital medicine learning modules covering current guidelines and standards of practice; EMR and dictation training; ECG interpretation; ACLS/BLS certification; and simulation-based learning through our HIM Simulation based Boot Camp.
