Previous experience supporting children and young people with emotional needs, attendance concerns, SEND or SEMH would be advantageous; however, most importantly, we are looking for individuals who share our values and are committed to making a difference.

EBSA / EBSD Outreach Worker

We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and proactive EBSA / EBSD Outreach Worker to support children and young people experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) and Emotionally Based School Dysregulation (EBSD).

This role is focused on helping pupils overcome emotional barriers to learning and school attendance through a combination of direct intervention, family support and partnership working with schools and external agencies. The successful candidate will work with pupils both in school and within community settings, helping them build confidence, develop coping strategies and successfully engage with education.

The role requires the ability to build trusting relationships with vulnerable young people and their families whilst maintaining high expectations and promoting positive outcomes.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential requirements of this post, as regular travel between schools, homes and professional meetings will be required.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Build positive and professional relationships with pupils experiencing EBSA and/or EBSD.
  2. Support pupils to improve attendance, engagement and emotional wellbeing.
  3. Deliver targeted one-to-one and small group interventions focused on emotional regulation, resilience and confidence.
  4. Work directly with families to identify and address barriers to school attendance and engagement.
  5. Undertake home visits where appropriate and in accordance with safeguarding procedures.
  6. Develop and implement personalised support plans alongside school staff and families.
  7. Support reintegration, transition and phased return programmes.
  8. Liaise effectively with schools, SEND teams, educational psychologists, health professionals and other external agencies.
  9. Maintain accurate records, reports and intervention evaluations.
  10. Promote safeguarding, inclusion and positive educational outcomes for all pupils.
  11. Contribute to multi-agency meetings, reviews and attendance planning processes.
  12. Support schools in developing effective strategies for pupils experiencing emotionally based barriers to learning.

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  1. Experience of working with children and young people in an educational, pastoral, youth work, family support or similar setting.
  2. An understanding of emotional wellbeing, anxiety, trauma-informed practice and barriers to engagement in education.
  3. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  4. The ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
  5. A calm, flexible and solution-focused approach.
  6. Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  7. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  8. A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
