The posting
Our MedTech manufacturing team produces precision-molded and assembled components. We are establishing Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) molding capability at our Singapore site. The LSR Engineer (Automation/EOAT) will develop automation and end-of-arm tooling for LSR demolding, part handling and related assembly operations.
This role suits an engineer who can turnhandling concepts into working mechanisms and robot applications. You will work with the LSR Principal Engineer, Process Engineer, Integration Engineer, tooling and automation suppliers, Production, Maintenance and Quality.
Role Purpose
Design, develop and prove automation mechanisms, robot applications and end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) for LSR demolding, insert loading and pre-molding or post-molding assembly. Establish reliable handling of flexible silicone parts while protecting product surfaces and moldsand meeting cycle time, productivity and maintenance requirements.
You will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. The Automation/EOAT Engineer owns mechanism design androbot application performance, working within process and product handling limits agreed with the Process Engineer and the cell interfaces and safety architecture coordinated by the Integration Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
LSR Automation and EOAT Development
· Study manual operations, partgeometry and demand to identify automation opportunities. Prepare concepts, cycle time estimates, technical risks, investment needs and measurable laborsavings.
· Design EOAT, grippers, stripping or peeling mechanisms, nests, fixtures, feeders and transfer devices. Evaluate vacuum, mechanical and compliant gripping methods for flexible ordifficult-to-release LSR parts.
· Create three-dimensional CADm odels, fabrication drawings, tolerance requirements, bills of materials andpneumatic circuits. Select actuators, sensors, gripper contact materials andstandard components.
· Review robot payload, toolweight, center of gravity, reach and mold access. Design for part cleanliness, approved product contact, maintenance access and quick changeover.
· Build and test prototypes, then refine grip force, vacuum level, contact area, release method and part support to prevent stretching, tearing, marking, distortion and dropped parts.
· Program robot paths, toolframes, approach and release sequences, speeds and positions. Coordinate handshakes and control logic with the Integration Engineer for synchronized cell operation.
· Develop insert loading, part separation and orientation, inspection, assembly and transfer operations beforeor after molding. Include grip confirmation, part removal checks, reject handling and controlled fault recovery.
Validation Change Management and Risk Control
· Agree handling acceptance criteria and part release conditions with the Process Engineer. Test representative parts, temperatures and process variation to verify demolding success, part quality and cycle time.
· Support factory and site acceptance testing, qualification and agreed endurance trials. Investigate failures and provide evidence of reliable mechanism and robot application performance.
· Prepare risk assessment and PFMEA inputs for handling, moving mechanisms and assembly stations. Verify clearance, part retention, detection of retained parts and recovery without mold damage.
· Maintain controlled drawings, robot programs and setup parameters. Assess design and program changes forproduct, safety, interface and qualification impact before implementation.
Continuous Improvement and Operational Impact
· Troubleshoot demolding failures, grip loss, feeding jams, part damage and assembly variation. Use trial and production data to improve reliability and reduce manual intervention.
· Improve cycle time and changeover methods, and verify labor hours released with Production using measured performance and the approved operating method.
· Prepare setup and troubleshooting guides, spare parts lists and maintenance requirements. Train technicians and operators in EOAT changeover, robot setup and fault recovery.
Compliance and Audit Support
· Perform automation activities in accordance with the site quality management system, ISO 13485 and applicable equipment safety, customer and regulatory requirements.
· Maintain traceable design reviews, test records and engineering change documentation. Support audits and investigations involving automated handling and assembly operations.
Customer Supplier and Stakeholder Coordination
· Coordinate mechanism fabrication, purchased components, supplier design reviews and build trials. Verify supplied tooling and automation against approved drawings and acceptancecriteria.
· Provide handling feasibility, design risks and improvement recommendations for customer and internaltechnical reviews. Escalate unresolved process or cell interface issues to therelevant engineer.
Reporting and Analytics
· Track demolding and handling success, part damage, cycle time, manual intervention, downtime and assembly rejects for assigned applications.
· Prepare design and trialreports with measured results, failure analysis, productivity benefits andactions required before production handover.
Qualifications
· Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Automation Engineering or a relatedtechnical discipline.
· Minimum 3 years of hands-onautomation equipment, EOAT, gripper, jig or fixture development, from conceptand detailed design through build, trials and production support.
· Proficient in three-dimensionalmechanical CAD, such as SolidWorks, Inventor or equivalent. Able to preparefabrication drawings, apply tolerances and select pneumatic, vacuum and motioncomponents.
· Hands-on robot programming, teaching and troubleshooting experience on at least one industrial robot ormolding takeout robot platform. Familiar with sensors, PLC interfaces andmachine sequencing.
· Experience handling flexible, delicate or deformable parts, with practical understanding of grip force, partsupport, release behavior and detection of handling failures.
· Able to conduct mechanism andcycle time studies, work with fabricators and suppliers, and documentengineering changes. Willing to support on-site builds, commissioning andproduction troubleshooting.
Preferred Attributes
· Direct experience with LSR orelastomer demolding, multi-cavity takeout, undercuts, stripping or peelingmechanisms, insert loading or overmolding automation.
· Experience with vision inspection, soft part feeding and orientation, precision assembly, or force and displacement monitoring.
· Experience with cleanroom compatible automation, medical device components, ISO 13485 documentation and qualification testing.
· Experience delivering automation that demonstrates repeatable part handling, sustained production performance and measured productivity benefits.
