Our specialized care teams provide personalized, compassionate, expert care to patients of all ages. Informed by basic research done at our Sloan Kettering Institute, scientists across MSK collaborate to conduct innovative translational and clinical research that is driving a revolution in our understanding of cancer as a disease and improving the ability to prevent, diagnose, and treat it. MSK is dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and clinicians, who go on to pursue our mission at MSK and around the globe.

Exciting Opportunity at MSK: Chief, Interventional Radiology Service

The Department of Radiology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) seeks an accomplished interventional radiologist and physician leader to serve as Chief of the Interventional Radiology (IR) Service. Reporting to Lawrence H. Schwartz, MD, Chair of the Department of Radiology, the Chief will oversee the Service’s clinical, academic, and administrative missions and establish a shared strategic vision for excellence in patient care, innovation, research, and education.

Role Overview

  • Lead a multidisciplinary Service of 29 faculty members and more than 175 team members, including advanced practice providers, technologists, radiology assistants, research staff, trainees, and administrative professionals, across the MSK Main Campus, David H. Koch Center for Cancer Care, and regional sites in Westchester, Commack, and Monmouth.
  • Oversee approximately 20,000 minimally invasive procedures annually across inpatient and outpatient settings. Services span image-guided biopsies, venous access, drainage, tumor ablation, embolization and Y-90 radioembolization, biliary and genitourinary interventions, and advanced vascular, palliative, and supportive procedures.
  • Define and execute clinical and operational priorities, including service development, access and capacity planning, staffing, budgets, resource allocation, quality and patient safety, and adoption of emerging image-guided technologies. Maintain an active clinical practice and promote consistent care across all locations.
  • Build a cohesive, collaborative group-practice culture; recruit, mentor, develop, and retain faculty; foster accountability and engagement; and strengthen partnerships with MSK Disease Management Teams, referring clinicians, and other clinical services.
  • Advance clinical and translational research in interventional oncology, image-guided therapies, ablation, embolization, vascular interventions, and AI/data science. Support investigator development, clinical trials, grant applications, publication, and interdisciplinary scientific collaboration.
  • Strengthen education and mentorship through the ACGME-accredited Independent Interventional Radiology Residency and advanced Interventional Oncology Fellowship, preparing the next generation of clinical and academic leaders.

The Service benefits from advanced facilities, including hybrid CT/angiography suites, PET/CT-guided interventions, and the Center for Image-Guided Interventions, as well as MSK’s multidisciplinary clinical and research infrastructure. • Eligibility for medical licensure in New York State.
  • National or international recognition in interventional radiology, with a strong record of clinical, research, and educational accomplishment.
  • Approximately 5–7 years of administrative and leadership experience at an academic institution or cancer center, such as Section/Division Chief, Deputy Chief, Director, or Medical Director.
  • Academic achievements commensurate with faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
  • Demonstrated experience directing clinical operations and multidisciplinary programs, supporting faculty development, and promoting research and training; an actively practicing physician is preferred.

Core Skills:

  • Ability to set a clear strategic direction, translate priorities into achievable plans, and lead effective organizational change.
  • Collaborative leadership style that builds trust, transparency, team engagement, and shared accountability across diverse disciplines and locations.
  • Sound judgment in patient-care quality, safety, access, regulatory compliance, and operational improvement.
  • Financial stewardship and thoughtful use of staff, infrastructure, and resources while balancing present clinical demands with long-term growth.
  • Proven talent development, mentorship, delegation, and the ability to inspire teams at varied career stages.
  • Excellent communication, listening, relationship-building, integrity, resilience, and ability to build consensus across stakeholders.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
