The posting

Company Overview

Metrea delivers effects-as-a-service to national security partners across five domains and more than a dozen mission areas. These include airborne ISR, electronic warfare, secure communications, aerial refueling, special air missions, aerial firefighting, and advanced simulation. We own the whole stack: designing, building, and operating turnkey capabilities that give our partners decisive, asymmetric advantage against rapidly evolving threats.

Our operating model is built around three interlocking pillars. The Support Groups provide a global shared-service – spanning people, finance, platform, operations, legal, and engagement. This frees up our Core Groups, who develop and own mission capabilities end-to-end, to focus entirely on delivery. The Market Groups apply a regional lens, ensuring that our agile and adaptable capabilities remain aligned to the wicked problems that matter most to our partners across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific.

At the heart of our model is a simple but powerful idea: be a true partner with skin in the game. Our partners need effects, not just equipment. By owning the full stack – from the lab to the field – we are able to drive a continuous cycle of innovation that keeps our partners ahead. It's a fast-moving, intellectually demanding environment where talented people are given real responsibility, work on problems that matter, and contribute to an enterprise that is growing quickly and deliberately.

Headquartered in Washington, DC, with facilities across the United States, the United Kingdom, as well as Continental Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Group Overview

Electromagnetic and Cyber Group (EM&C) is responsible for developing flexible and survivable advanced electronic warfare and secure communications equipment while providing the industry’s leading signals intelligence, electronic warfare, and cyber experts. Metrea specializes in signal classification, direction finding, advanced geolocation techniques, and waveform development including waveforms for MANET and LPI/LPD applications. Metrea also develops special purpose radios for government customers and licenses DF and geolocation solutions to multiple OEMs.

Position Summary

The Tactical SIGINT/EW Subject Matter Expert (SME) provides operational, technical, and expeditionary expertise across Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Signals Intelligence (SI), Electronic Warfare (EW), and cyber enablement in support of MSO’s Special Training and Operations (STO) mission. Tactical SIGINT / EW SMEs support contracted customer requirements, mission validation exercises, operational programs and projects, and capability integration efforts across the Metrea enterprise.

This role requires a blend of hands-on technical proficiency, operational judgment, and the ability to plan and execute expeditionary technical activities in complex environments with disciplined management of physical and electronic signatures. The SME advises customers, partners, and internal teams on the effective employment of ISR/EW capabilities and may contribute to the design and delivery of special training and exercise support as required to enable mission execution and demonstrate technical depth and leadership. Limited overseas operational support may be provided on an as needed and voluntary basis.

What You'll Do

  • Provide expeditionary ISR, SI/EW, and cyber enablement expertise in support of operational programs, exercises, enterprise initiatives, and other customer requirements
  • Plan and execute SI/EW technical support activities aligned with contracted customer requirements, ensuring disciplined management of physical and electronic signatures
  • Conduct RF survey, direction finding (DF), geolocation, collection, and analysis across HF/VHF/UHF and wireless digital communications environments
  • Assess operational and electromagnetic environments and adapt technical approaches to evolving conditions
  • Integrate commercially available, government-provided, and partner technical capabilities in support of customer requirements
  • Support mission rehearsal, exercise design, and special training events that replicate realistic operational conditions
  • Deliver instruction on tactical SI/EW employment, including Metrea-developed and third-party systems, as required
  • Contribute to capability evaluation, testing, and refinement efforts based on operational feedback
  • Produce technical documentation, after-action products, and assessments to support continuous improvement
  • Participate in CONUS and OCONUS travel, including limited overseas operational support on an as needed basis

What You Bring

  • Strong technical proficiency across Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Signals Intelligence (SI), Electronic Warfare (EW), and cyber enablement theory, operations, and tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs)
  • Demonstrated experience conducting ground-based or expeditionary ISR/SI/EW technical activities in support of mission or customer requirements
  • Experience operating in small-team, austere, or contested environments with limited external support
  • Hands-on experience with relevant SI/EW technologies and systems, including radio frequency (RF) theory, spectrum operations, direction finding, antenna construction and employment, and signal characterization
  • Working proficiency with HF/VHF/UHF analog and digital communications, Digital Push-To-Talk (DPTT), legacy and emerging cellular protocols (e.g., GSM, CDMA, UMTS, LTE), Wi-Fi (802.11), Bluetooth, and advanced or emerging signal sets
  • Technical proficiency in ISR-supporting computing environments, including LINUX-based systems, computer networking, and close-access cyber enablement
  • Experience employing Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS), commercial, and partner SI/EW systems in operational, exercise, or training environments
  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn, adapt to, and employ new or emerging SI, EW, and cyber technologies, equipment, and threat environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable guidance for operators, customers, and partners
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief, instruct, and support classroom, laboratory, and field-based activities
  • Prior assignment to an active duty Special Operations unit (preferred) or other expeditionary tactical units

Our Firmware

At Metrea, our single core value is Rooted in Humility, and our four cornerstone attributes are Entrepreneurial, Systematic, Discerning, and Over-Deliver. These form what we call our Teammate Firmware. Just like technical firmware connects software and hardware, our Firmware is the constant interface between our mission and our people. It defines how we show up, how we work together, and how we solve complex problems.

Our team Firmware creates a web-like, hyper-collaborative, dynamically hierarchical way of working that helps us adapt quickly, communicate openly, and distribute decision-making to where expertise actually lives. It enables groups to self-organize around hard problems, shift fluidly as priorities evolve, and operate with the trust, curiosity, and discipline required in a complex mission space. This foundation allows us to deliver elegant, effective solutions and uphold our purpose: protecting our precious inheritance.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
