About Mi-Tech

Mi-Tech provides engineering, design, environmental, laboratory, technical, and field support for utility, infrastructure, and heavy civil projects. Founded in 1985 and part of the Michels Family of Companies, we bring engineering and construction expertise together to develop practical solutions from planning and design through construction.

About the role

As an Associate Engineer in our trenchless division, you’ll help design and support underground infrastructure projects involving horizontal directional drilling (HDD), tunneling, auger boring, direct steerable pipe thrusting, and microtunneling.

Our projects involve pipeline and utility crossings beneath rivers, highways, railroads, and other sensitive areas, serving a wide range of sectors, including municipal water and wastewater, renewable energy such as offshore wind farms, and oil and natural gas infrastructure.”

Working alongside experienced engineers, you’ll perform calculations and engineering analyses, evaluate subsurface conditions, develop trenchless designs, assess potential construction impact, and provide technical support during construction. You’ll also prepare construction drawings using AutoCAD as part of the design process.

This role combines engineering analysis, design, report writing, and field experience. You’ll build on your knowledge of soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering, geology, and engineering mechanics while learning how ground conditions and construction methods influence design decisions.

Why Mi-Tech?

  • Develop specialized trenchless engineering skills while solving challenging design and construction problems.
  • Learn from experienced engineers and recognized industry experts through mentorship and progressively challenging assignments.
  • Gain field experience, company-supported training, and experience toward PE licensure working under licensed engineers.
  • Join a family-owned organization backed by the engineering and construction resources of the Michels Family of Companies.

What makes you a good fit?

  • You are curious, eager to learn, and enjoy applying engineering fundamentals to unfamiliar problems.
  • You take pride in accurate work and want to see how your solutions perform in the field.
  • You communicate clearly, work well with others, and take responsibility for your assignments.

What it takes

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline from an ABET-accredited engineering program; recent graduates and candidates with zero to two years of experience are encouraged to apply.
  • EI/EIT certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and analytical skills, with an interest in geotechnical engineering and underground construction.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical information; proficiency with Excel and Word.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for meetings, site visits, and short-term construction assignments.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred qualifications

  • Coursework, projects, or experience in geotechnical engineering, geology, foundation engineering, or construction engineering.
  • Internship or work experience in civil infrastructure design or construction.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Interest in trenchless technologies, underground construction, or pipeline engineering.
  • Prior trenchless engineering experience is not required. We value technical curiosity, a strong engineering foundation, and a willingness to learn.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
