The posting

Overview

The Cloud & AI organization accelerates Microsoft’s mission and bold ambitions to ensure that our company and industry is securing digital technology platforms, devices, and clouds in our customers’ heterogeneous environments, as well as ensuring the security of our own internal estate. Our culture is centered on embracing a growth mindset, a theme of inspiring excellence, and encouraging teams and leaders to bring their best each day. In doing so, we create life-changing innovations that impact billions of lives around the world. Microsoft is one of the largest enterprise service companies in the world.

Security represents one of the most critical priorities for our customers in a world awash in digital threats, regulatory scrutiny, and estate complexity. The Office of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is accountable for managing and prioritizing cybersecurity risks for Microsoft. This team oversees the company’s overall cyber defense, including the security of Microsoft products and business operations, and collaborates with Engineering teams to advance Secure Future Initiative (SFI) objectives.

Security is a core priority for Microsoft, and Identity and Access Management protections are essential to protecting Microsoft at global scale.

We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team of Software Engineers and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) building and operating secure, scalable, cloud-native services and platforms that strengthen endpoint security and protect Microsoft’s enterprise environment. This role combines technical and people leadership to drive platform engineering, endpoint protection, service reliability, security automation, and AI-enabled engineering practices while improving security posture, operational resilience, and engineering productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team of Software Engineers and Site Reliability Engineers building secure, scalable services and platforms for endpoint protection, device management, security operations, and enterprise security.
  • Define the engineering vision, technical strategy, and architecture for endpoint security platforms spanning policy enforcement, application governance, vulnerability management, device health, security telemetry, and automated threat response.
  • Drive the development of scalable, automated security capabilities that translate security policies into enforceable controls, govern application trust and privileged access, and continuously improve endpoint security posture.
  • Lead vulnerability and patch management engineering, enabling risk-based prioritization, automated remediation, and measurable reduction of security exposure across enterprise environments.
  • Drive automated threat containment and response capabilities that enable timely remediation, limit security incident impact, and improve organizational resilience.
  • Establish and evolve site reliability engineering practices, including service-level objectives (SLOs), availability, capacity planning, resilience engineering, production readiness, and systematic reduction of operational toil for mission-critical services.
  • Partner across engineering, product, identity, security, infrastructure, and operations teams to translate security requirements into integrated platform capabilities and drive execution across organizational boundaries.
  • Drive execution across multiple engineering investments by managing technical priorities, dependencies, resources, and delivery commitments while balancing long-term platform strategy with near-term business objectives.
  • Build an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture by attracting, developing, and mentoring exceptional talent while empowering engineers to innovate, collaborate, take ownership, and grow.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience designing and building large-scale software systems, with coding experience in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or C#. OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of people management experience leading engineering teams comprising Software Engineers, Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), or both.
  • Experience in endpoint security, vulnerability management, or related security engineering domains, including developing or operating capabilities that improve security posture, identify risks, or enable remediation.
  • Experience implementing reliability engineering practices to improve service availability, resilience, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical, security, and operational requirements into scalable engineering solutions with measurable outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success driving cross-organizational engineering initiatives, managing competing priorities, and aligning technical execution with business objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of people management experience, including leading multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience building enterprise-scale endpoint security, identity, device management, application governance, vulnerability management, or security automation solutions.
  • Experience building and operating enterprise-scale endpoint security and vulnerability management solutions, including risk-based prioritization, patching, remediation automation, and security posture improvement.
  • Experience building enterprise-scale identity, device management, application governance, security automation, or related security platforms.
  • Experience establishing advanced reliability and operational excellence practices, including service-level objectives (SLOs), observability, telemetry, incident management, and automated recovery.
  • Experience integrating AI-assisted development, intelligent automation, or data-driven engineering practices into the software development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence long-term engineering strategy and build partnerships across engineering, product, security, identity, and infrastructure organizations.

Proven track record of developing engineering talent, building inclusive teams, and improving engineering effectiveness across multiple teams.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
