Mobile Diesel Technician – Field Service – Chesapeake, VA

$32–$42/hr | Take-Home Service Truck | Monday–Friday | No Weekends

We’re adding Mobile Diesel Technicians to our field service team in Chesapeake, VA.

If you’re a Diesel Technician who likes variety, troubleshooting, and working hands-on in the field, this is an opportunity to put your skills to work on a wide range of heavy-duty trucks and equipment. Instead of spending every day in the same shop, you’ll travel to customer sites in a take-home service truck, diagnose the problem, make the repair, and help get their equipment back to work.

You’ll work on everything from service cranes and roll-offs to street sweepers, dump trucks, and other specialized equipment. Some days may mean tracking down an electrical issue; others may involve hydraulic repairs, preventative maintenance, or a more involved component repair. No two service calls are exactly the same.

You’ll have the support of the MATE team behind you, along with manufacturer and vendor training, while having the tools and equipment you need to get the job done in the field.

What We Offer

  • $32–$42 per hour based on demonstrated skill level
  • Take-home service truck
  • No flat-rate pay
  • $1,000 Annual Tool Allowance — $250 per quarter
  • $200 Annual Boot Allowance
  • Monday–Friday, 6:30 AM–3:00 PM
  • No weekends
  • Company-provided uniforms
  • Manufacturer and vendor technical training

Benefits That Work for You

  • 80 hours of PTO in your first year, increasing with your years of service
  • 8 hours of paid Personal Leave each year, in addition to PTO
  • Paid holidays
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • MATE-funded HRA contribution toward your medical deductible — up to $3,000
  • 401(k) with company match: MATE matches 50% of the first 8% you contribute, for a maximum company match of $3,000 per year
  • Company-paid $50,000 Basic Life & AD&D Insurance
  • Company-paid Short-Term Disability
  • Company-paid Long-Term Disability
  • Employee Assistance Program and additional support resources for you and your family

What You’ll Do

As a Mobile Heavy Diesel Technician, you will:

  • Travel to customer sites in your MATE service truck to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
  • Work on a diverse product line, including service cranes, roll-offs, street sweepers, dump trucks, and other specialized equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, diesel engine, and related system issues using diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, lubrication, tire and component replacement, cooling system maintenance, and other repairs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, cylinders, valves, hoses, PTO-driven systems, and related components.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including wiring, sensors, power, and other electrical components.
  • Complete more complex repairs such as body swaps, hydraulic pump replacement, and other component-level repairs.
  • Maintain accurate electronic work orders documenting diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and additional work recommended.
  • Communicate with the Service Manager and team regarding diagnoses, repair needs, parts, and additional support.
  • Continue developing your technical skills through manufacturer training, vendor resources, and hands-on coaching.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty trucks and/or equipment
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, brakes, drivetrains, and related mechanical systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems using diagnostic tools and a systematic approach
  • Experience working with hydraulic systems, including pumps, cylinders, valves, hoses, and PTO-driven systems
  • Experience with MIG and stick welding is a plus
  • Ability to work independently in the field while communicating effectively with the Service Manager and team
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and diagnostic equipment
  • Must have your own basic hand tools
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Class A or B CDL is a plus

Why MATE?

Field service gives you the opportunity to work on a wide variety of equipment and solve problems where they happen. No two customer sites or repairs are exactly the same, and you’ll have the support of the MATE team while working in the field.

You’ll also have access to manufacturer and vendor training, hands-on coaching, and the tools and equipment you need to continue developing your technical skills.

Technician level and starting pay are based on demonstrated technical ability across the systems and repairs required for the role.

If you’re a Diesel Technician who enjoys variety, troubleshooting, and getting customers back up and running, we’d love to hear from you.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to frequently kneel, bend, squat, push, pull, and reach
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs. without assistance
  • Ability to safely get into and out of various vehicles and equipment
  • Must pass a DOT physical, including drug screening

Communication Requirements

This position requires the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to safely perform the essential functions of the job. Effective communication is necessary to understand and follow safety procedures and instructions, communicate with customers and team members, and complete required job-related documentation.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
