The posting

mimic is a deep tech robotics & AI start-up based in Zurich and supported by leading VCs. We give industry workers a helping hand for tedious manual labour tasks and mitigate labour shortages with a versatile automation platform. Our automation solutions, driven by dexterous robotic hands and cutting edge AI trained on human observations, bring a new level of AI embodiment to the real world.

The RoleWe’re looking for a hands-on (Staff/Senior) Systems Engineer to drive the technical evolution of our robotics and AI stack into a scalable, highly reliable, and production-grade platform.

In this role, you will sit at the center of cloud, AI and robotics fleet software integration at our Zurich headquarters. You will own the core system architecture and fleet infrastructure required to take our robots from cutting edge research platforms to rock-solid, autonomous operations in real-world environments.

In this role you willArchitect the fleet: aid the design and implementation of the end-to-end system that connects our stations into a managed fleet. That covers provisioning, device identity, connectivity, and the data and high level control planes, built to scale by orders of magnitude. Move petabytes from edge to cloud: Build the pipeline that uploads multi-modal robot data (video, proprioception, logs) from stations with limited bandwidth, storage and compute. Ship software to robots safely: Own OTA updates for the full stack (OS, drivers, runtime, models). This includes staged rollouts, A/B and blue/green deployments, health-gated promotion and automatic rollback. Make the fleet observable: Build centralized telemetry, monitoring and alerting, predictive analytics and maintenance. Raise the operational bar: Set and enforce standards for testing, CI/CD, releases and incident response across teams. Write the hot paths: Implement performance-critical components such as data transport, compression and on-device agents. Integrate across teams: Define the interfaces between research, AI infra, robotics and hardware, and be the person who knows how the whole system fits together.

What we hope you'll bringLarge-scale systems design: You have architected distributed systems at scale and can reason clearly about the trade-offs between throughput, consistency, failure modes and cost. Edge fleet experience: You have shipped and operated software on fleets of physical devices, such as robots, AVs, drones, IoT or edge ML. Operational excellence: You have hands-on experience with CI/CD, release engineering, infrastructure-as-code, observability and production systems with real uptime commitments. Strong engineering: You write efficient, maintainable code in a systems language (C++/Rust/Go) plus Python, and you can reason about algorithms. Ownership and communication: You are comfortable owning a system end-to-end and aligning AI researchers, roboticists, hardware engineers and software engineers around it. Zurich-based or willing to relocate: This role lives next to the robots and the team that builds and maintains them.

Nice to HaveData infrastructure for ML training, such as large-scale ingestion, storage and dataset tooling. Embedded or Linux systems internals, secure boot, and image-based updates. Experience in robot learning infrastructure at scale. Safety-critical architectures or formal certification environments. Scaling a platform from early prototypes to fleet-wide deployment.

You will have the opportunity to shape a robotics & AI company from the ground up. In flat hierarchies you will work directly with the founders and some of the best talents in the robotics space. At mimic, you are accepted for who you are. As part of our ongoing journey towards creating a diverse and inclusive environment we encourage everyone to apply and we are looking forward to you bringing along your knowledge, personal experiences, and fresh perspectives. Together we can solve some of the greatest challenges in robotics.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
