The posting

Mind Computing is seeking a fulltime, 100% remote UI/UX Designer to support a project with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The ideal candidate will apply Human Centered Design (HCD) principles to develop and enhance user-centric applications with a strong focus on usability, accessibility, and user experience. The designer should have strong experience in user research, wireframing, prototyping, and cross-functional collaboration, along with a demonstrated ability to design accessible digital experiences and support Section 508 compliance.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, testers, and stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into effective UI/UX solutions.
  • Develop research-oriented questions and use indirect user insights to inform design decisions when direct access to users is limited.
  • Create wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using Figma to communicate design concepts and support development.
  • Serve as a UI/UX accessibility subject-matter resource, providing guidance to cross-functional teams on accessible design practices and Section 508 compliance.
  • Incorporate accessibility and compliance considerations throughout the design process and prior to production release.
  • Review accessibility findings and provide clear, actionable guidance for identifying and remediating Section 508 issues.
  • Support accessibility testing, audits, and remediation efforts by reviewing findings, recommending design solutions, and validating corrected implementations.
  • Incorporate feedback from developers, testers, stakeholders, and users into iterative design improvements within an Agile delivery environment.
  • Contribute to team objectives and take on additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a UI/UX Designer with a portfolio demonstrating accessible web or application design work.
  • Strong understanding and practical application of Human Centered Design principles in complex, constraint driven environments.
  • Demonstrated experience designing accessible user interfaces and advising cross-functional teams on Section 508 compliance and remediation.
  • Translate accessibility and compliance requirements into practical recommendations for team members with varying levels of accessibility expertise.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Business Analysts and stakeholders and translate research and user insights into practical design solutions.
  • Proficiency with Figma and experience working within Agile development teams.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly explain design and accessibility recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Prior government/federal experience.
  • Experience supporting VA, DHA, HHS, or other federal/government projects.
  • Familiarity with VA Digital Service guidelines, USWDS, and federal accessibility standards and expectations.
  • Experience supporting accessibility testing, audits, and remediation.
  • Experience contributing to or working within a design system, including UI patterns, components, and documentation.
  • Familiarity with collaboration and documentation tools such as Miro, Mural, JIRA, and Confluence.
  • Ability to obtain a government clearance.

Benefits:

  • Medical/Dental/Vision
  • 401k with Employer Match
  • PTO + Federal Holidays
  • Corporate Laptop
  • Training Opportunities
  • Remote Opportunity

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
