If you are thinking YES, please keep reading because we are now looking for a Legal Counsel, Ethics & Compliance to join Stora Enso’s Ethics and Compliance Team!
In this role, as a member of the Ethics and Compliance team, you will work with assignments on group level, and, at the same time, serve as the dedicated Ethics and Compliance resource for one or several of Stora Enso's Business Areas. More specifically, you will:
- Serve as the dedicated E&C resource for assigned Business Area(s), providing proactive and reactive legal support including risk assessments, policy interpretation, and compliance investigations
- Monitor relevant regulatory developments in Finland and across the EU, covering anti-corruption, sanctions, data privacy, and sustainability-related obligations
- Draft, update, and implement E&C policies and guidelines, ensuring consistent understanding and application across the organisation
- Develop and deliver E&C training and awareness initiatives, both in person, online and through e-learning programmes
- Contribute as an integrated member of the Group E&C team, taking ownership of group-level projects and supporting the Chief Compliance Officer as needed
Together with your team, you will also attempt to manage information in digital form by using AI, and thus continuously work towards making the routines more efficient and better.
The Ethics and Compliance team consists of 6 professionals in several global locations. The team is spread across multiple locations but operates as a genuinely close-knit group, with strong connections and active day-to-day collaboration across geographies. Team members support one another and are encouraged to challenge each other constructively. The position is based at Stora Enso’s headquarters in Katajanokka, Helsinki, but the position also involves occasional, pre-planned travel, mostly within Europe. You will report to the Chief Compliance Officer, who is based in Sweden.
This position is a great fit for a candidate who has:
✅ a Finnish law degree or other education and experience the employer deems relevant for this position;
✅ at least five years of relevant experience in ethics and compliance in an international environment, whether in-house or at a law firm;
✅ a strong knowledge of competition law, anti-corruption, trade sanctions, grievance handling and investigations, as well as business ethics and corporate values more broadly;
✅ a good understanding of the fast-moving regulatory landscape relevant to corporate ethics and compliance, including developments at both the Finnish and EU levels, particularly in the areas of anti-corruption, sanctions, data privacy, and sustainability-related obligations;
✅ project management experience and experience of rolling out cross-functional programmes in international organisations;
✅ proven integrity and high ethical standards as well as a strong drive to get things done and the ability to perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
✅ strong interpersonal skills and a team player mindset; and
✅ strong communication skills – fluency in both written and oral English and Finnish is required. Additional language skills, such as Swedish, German, Polish, Dutch or Chinese, are considered an advantage.
