The best part? NO LESSON PLANNING OR MATERIAL PREPARATION REQUIRED! Simply arrive, review the students' lesson assignments, and get started. Sylvan provides the curriculum, materials, and training you need to make a difference.

Our teachers help students strengthen academic skills, build confidence, and develop a positive attitude toward learning. You'll work with small groups of up to three students at a time in a 3:1 student-to-teacher ratio, providing individualized support and encouragement as students work toward their academic goals.

We welcome certified elementary educators, retired teachers, substitute teachers with qualifying teaching credentials, and college students in their second year or beyond of an elementary education degree program.

Position Details:

  • Pay: $16.50–$18/hour, depending on experience, availability, and subjects taught
  • Hours: Approximately 4–10 hours per week
  • Schedule: After-school hours Monday–Thursday (4:30–7:30 PM), with availability for at least one Saturday morning (9:30 AM–12:30 PM) required.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Choose how many hours you'd like to work based on your availability and our scheduling needs!
  • Students: Grades 1–8
  • Class Size: Small groups with a 3:1 student-to-teacher ratio
  • Training: Provided for all Sylvan programs

Experience teaching upper-level math or reading is always welcome but not required. We provide the curriculum and training to help you feel confident working with your students!

  • Guide students through Sylvan's structured Math and Reading programs.
  • Deliver engaging instructional sessions using Sylvan's provided curriculum and materials.
  • Work with small groups of up to three students while providing individualized instruction and support.
  • Manage multiple students, instructional tasks, and time to create productive learning sessions.
  • Monitor and record student progress throughout each session.
  • Use positive reinforcement, praise, and encouragement to keep students engaged and motivated.
  • Complete learning logs at the end of each hour to communicate student progress with parents.
  • Communicate regularly with Center Directors regarding student progress and instructional needs.
  • Attend periodic staff meetings and participate in ongoing training as needed.
  • Complete certification training for each Sylvan program assigned.

Applicants must meet ONE of the following requirements:

  • Hold a current Nebraska teaching certificate with an Elementary Education endorsement (K–6 or another applicable elementary-level endorsement).
  • Be a college student in at least their second year of pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education or a related education program preparing them for elementary-level instruction.

We also welcome retired teachers, substitute teachers with qualifying elementary education credentials, and educators with inactive teaching certificates.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
