Tool Room Technician Mitchell Plastics, Huntsville, AL Precision work that keeps production moving. Do you enjoy solving tough problems and seeing your work go straight onto the press? As a Tool Room Technician, you’ll build, service and repair the molds behind our injection molding operation for some of the world’s best automakers. What You’ll Own Tool Room Technician 1
Preventive maintenance: Keep every mold in peak condition by performing Preventive Maintenance on schedule and completing all required documentation. Building tooling: Make tooling components to specification and get new tooling up and running properly, as efficiently as possible. Time tracking: Record your hours and charge them to the correct job number so every project is accurately accounted for. Training others: Share what you know by training Tool Room team members as needed. 5S: Help keep the Tool Room clean, organized and efficient. Inventory: Help manage and document spare parts and common component inventory. Mold transport: Help move molds that need repair or service to and from the Tool Room, and return them to storage or the correct machine. Shipping and receiving: Help stage, secure and document molds being shipped in and out. Teamwork: Step in and support Tool Room personnel whenever extra hands are needed. Your development: Take part in all assigned training so you keep building your skills. This may include completing academic assignments. Flexibility: Take on other duties as assigned by Tool Room leadership.
Tool Room Technician 2 (all Technician 1 duties, plus the following)
Press calls: Respond to production press calls and troubleshoot on the spot to decide whether a repair can be done in the press or the tool needs to be pulled and brought to the Tool Room. Benchwork: Repair and service tools using your benchwork skills, including but not limited to venting, fitting, polishing and working with pneumatic tools. Electrical: Troubleshoot and repair electrical components on the tools. Hot runners: Perform hot runner maintenance. Welding: Repair and service tools using your welding skills. Machining: Run Tool Room equipment such as the milling machine, surface grinder and other machines as directed by Tool Room leadership. Flexibility: Take on other duties as assigned by Tool Room leadership.
What You Bring
Grade 12 education. At least 3 years of hands-on experience as a Machinist or Tool and Die Maker.
What Sets You Apart
Strong communication skills. Working knowledge of precision measuring equipment. A good grasp of geometry and trigonometry, basic math skills, and the ability to read and write in English. Working knowledge of shop machining equipment. Experience with lifting devices such as jib and overhead cranes, plus working knowledge of rigging for crane use. The ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings and CAD models. The ability to meet the requirements in the forms that govern this job function. An understanding of the key Quality and Environmental Management Systems procedures for this role. Basic computer skills.
