The posting

Major League Baseball is looking for an Associate Software Engineer (Seasonal) in the Baseball and Content Engineering (BACE) organization to build the code that powers the baseball experience on MLB.com. Launched in 2001 as the tech arm of Major League Baseball, MLB.com is renowned for creating experiences that baseball fans love, and by embracing modern, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-augmented development practices, we're building the future of sports technology faster than ever. Our BACE organization distributes content from our Content Management System (CMS) to MLB, MiLB, and other operated properties. This includes managing the publishing pipelines for news, videos, and push notifications, as well as services that support sitemap generation, search functionality, and cache busting. Additionally, we support internal tools that enable digital producers to create and manage forms for both MLB and MiLB Clubs. We also maintain a tool for managing player photo uploads, marketing materials, walk-up songs, and vanity redirects. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with other world-class engineers, product developers, and designers; contribute to award-winning, complex apps and systems; influence the innovation of products used by millions globally; and work in a highly collaborative, results-oriented team environment.

Responsibilities

Coding & Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Augmented Development

  • Work in a Full-stack capacity across JavaScript (Node, React, Next.js) and Java (Spring Boot)
  • Leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) coding assistants and agentic tools to scaffold code, optimize logic, and accelerate the delivery of robust features
  • Write clean, concise, modular code that is easily testable, taking full ownership and accountability for reviewing and refining any Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated code
  • Utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to assist in writing comprehensive unit and integration tests, ensuring high code quality and coverage

Collaboration & Modern Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

  • Participate in a modern, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enhanced agile environment
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle (requirements gathering, designing, building, testing, and maintenance), utilizing agentic tools to streamline documentation and technical planning
  • Participate in code reviews with other team members, critically evaluating human-written and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted code for security, performance, and architectural alignment

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a related field (Computer Science, Computer Engineering)
  • 0-2 years of experience in Java and the Spring Boot framework
  • Experience with front-end web development
  • Understanding of unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
  • Understanding of modern agile processes, including continuous delivery, automated testing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted workflows
  • Familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI) coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Codeium) and an aptitude for prompt-driven development

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with front-end technologies including React
  • Experience with back-end technologies including Spring and Node
  • Experience with HyperText Markup Language (HTML) or Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) layouts
  • Experience using Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to aid in debugging, code scaffolding, or generating test coverage
  • Experience with GraphQL and data federation
  • Experience working with cloud-native tooling such as Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform
  • Experience contributing to open source projects
  • Experience with public cloud providers such as Google Cloud
  • Experience with content delivery networks such as Cloudflare, Fastly
  • Familiarity with building or integrating Large Language Models (LLMs), Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents, or Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
  • A baseball fan or sports enthusiast

Pay Range: $40.00 - $55.00 per hour

The actual offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.

Why MLB?

Major League Baseball (MLB) is the most historic of the major professional sports leagues in the United States and Canada. Employees love working at MLB because of the culture of growth, teamwork, and professionalism. Employees who are most successful at MLB take initiative, know how to identify problems and provide solutions, and always put the Team first. For those ready to step up to the plate and join the major leagues, MLB takes the same approach as teams do with their players: empowering our “workforce athletes” to be at their best by engineering experiences that put employees in the best position to succeed. Major League Baseball is looking for candidates who are passionate about growing America’s pastime to best serve its fans for decades to come.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
