About the Role
As a Senior Backend / AI Applications Engineer at Mobi, you’ll join a collaborative, highly creative, and fast-paced team to design and build reliable backend services and AI-driven applications. You’ll play a key role as both architect and developer, shaping technologies that power Mobi’s portfolio of travel AI products used by some of the world’s leading brands.
This is a hands-on backend role with end-to-end ownership of production services, from clarifying ambiguous customer needs and making architecture trade-offs to implementation, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing reliability. You’ll work closely with product, design, and other engineers to build the APIs, integrations, and agent workflows behind Mobi’s travel AI products, delivering reliable experiences for our customers and their travelers.
We’re excited to work with someone who has made AI a meaningful part of how they build software. A strong proficiency in AI-assisted software development is essential to this role. You’ll bring hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and agents to turn ideas into production-ready features—from exploring solutions and writing code to testing, debugging, and refining what you’ve built. You know how to guide these tools thoughtfully, challenge their output, and take ownership of the results. Just as importantly, you’re curious about what’s possible and eager to discover and share new ways of working with AI.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and maintain MCP services and agent applications that connect Mobi’s travel AI products to customer and partner systems.
- Build and operate Python APIs, integrations, and AWS infrastructure with clear contracts, authentication, retries, idempotency, observability, and actionable error handling.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
- Use AI coding assistants and agents throughout the development lifecycle to accelerate delivery while maintaining high standards for correctness, accessibility, performance, and maintainability.
- Optimize applications for maximum speed, scalability, and performance.
- Review code to troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues; Implement best practices for code quality, testing, and maintainability.
- Build automated unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end tests to verify software correctness and service reliability.
- Develop scenario-based agent evaluations for tool selection, grounding, task completion, failure handling, and regressions, with explicit expected outcomes and checks for nondeterministic behavior.
- Stay current with trends, tools, and emerging technologies in the field of computer science and artificial intelligence.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong Python skills and a track record of independently owning production backend services, explaining architecture trade-offs, and turning ambiguous requirements into reliable, maintainable systems.
- Experience writing automated Python tests (e.g., pytest), API and integration tests, and browser-based end-to-end tests where the product requires them.
- Proficiency with backend APIs and RESTful services.
- Experience with AWS compute and storage services (e.g. Lambda, DynamoDB)
- Demonstrated ability to use AI coding assistants and agents to build and improve software, evidenced by professional work or substantial projects. You remain accountable for the design, code, tests, and production behavior.
- Experience directing AI tools through changes across multiple files in an existing codebase, including implementation, test generation, debugging, and refactoring.
- Strong judgment in evaluating AI-generated solutions: able to explain the code, verify its behavior, identify errors, and recognize when independent investigation or a different approach is needed.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Understanding of MCP and Agent frameworks.

Pay Transparency
The base salary range for this US full-time position is between $140,000 - $200,000 and is eligible for an annual company bonus, subject to standard withholding and applicable taxes. All candidates receive equity (ISO) and access to a comprehensive benefits offering. The base salary range reflects the minimum and maximum targets for candidates. The following factors are considered when determining the compensation offered: work location, skills, experience, and any relevant education or training.
