About the role

Join UBC Student Housing and Community Services as an Electrical Supervisor, combining hands-on electrical and fire-protection expertise with day-to-day leadership of a skilled trades crew. Reporting to the Trades Manager, you will maintain the electrical systems behind UBC's residential communities while overseeing work quality, safety, scheduling, and regulatory compliance. Two vacancies are available.

Responsibilities

- Lead and support a skilled trades crew: organize and allocate work, supervise employees, and help train workers and apprentices

- Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of low- and high-voltage equipment and systems

- Test and repair fire-protection and life-safety systems, ensuring work meets applicable codes and requirements

- Serve as the Electrical Field Safety Representative (FSR) for SHCS buildings: support compliance with provincial safety legislation, conduct inspections, and sign permits as required

- Prepare cost estimates, order materials, and maintain records for timekeeping, costing, tools, equipment, work assignments, and inspections

- Respond to on-site issues and emergencies, including trouble calls outside normal working hours

- Attend training and workshops to stay current on electrical codes, safety requirements, and industry practices

Qualifications

- Trade certification to journeyperson level as a "B" Ticket Electrician

- Current Field Safety Representative (FSR) certification

- Valid BC driver's licence

- Minimum five years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

- Current knowledge of electrical and safety codes, regulations, standards, and practices

- Able to work independently, communicate effectively with trades staff and stakeholders, and work various shifts including emergency response at short notice

- Assets: experience testing and repairing fire-protection systems; Microsoft Office and controller programming software

Pay & benefits

- Annual salary approximately $96,133.08–$103,079.52, including the 7% Sub-Head premium, plus an additional FSR premium of $2.20 per hour

- Overtime paid at double time where applicable

- University pension: UBC contributes 9.4% of gross pensionable earnings

- Vacation starting at 3 weeks, growing to 6 weeks, plus 3 additional days off between Christmas and New Year

- Tuition waiver of up to 12 UBC undergraduate (or approved non-credit) course credits

- Access to UBC employee discounts and perks

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
