You will serve as a strategic partner to practice leadership and senior stakeholders, developing and executing business development strategies that strengthen client relationships, identify new opportunities, and drive practice growth. Working closely with lawyers and cross-functional teams, you’ll provide strategic guidance on client targeting, competitive positioning, business generation initiatives, and market-facing programs aligned with the firm’s broader objectives.

This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with leading lawyers and an experienced Business Development team, influence strategic priorities, and contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and market position of the practice. You’ll leverage market intelligence, industry insights, and strong relationship-building skills to deliver innovative solutions and exceptional client

service.

Maintaining an in-office presence is important to delivering our services through an integrated and collaborative work culture. This position can be resident in any one of our Boston, New York, or Philadelphia offices and follows a hybrid three (3) days per week in-office working arrangement.

What you’ll do

  • Shape strategy: Lead the development and execution of strategic business development plans for the Capital Markets team, partnering with practice leadership to identify growth opportunities, establish priorities, and align initiatives with firmwide objectives.
  • Drive client engagement: Develop targeted client strategies, strengthen existing relationships, identify new business opportunities, and promote cross-practice collaboration to support revenue generation and long-term growth.
  • Lead business generation efforts: Oversee the development of high-impact pitches, RFP responses, presentations, capability statements, and other client-facing materials that demonstrate the firm’s expertise and competitive advantages.
  • Analyze and advise: Leverage market intelligence, competitive research, and performance data to identify trends, evaluate opportunities, and provide actionable recommendations to practice leadership and senior stakeholders.
  • Amplify market visibility: Guide thought leadership, client outreach, and integrated marketing initiatives that strengthen the practice’s market position and visibility among key clients and prospects.
  • Lead and collaborate: Provide leadership, guidance, and professional development to Business Development team members while collaborating across Marketing & Communications, Events, Pricing, and other business functions to deliver strategic initiatives.
  • Manage performance and resources: Oversee complex projects, establish priorities, and support annual planning and budgeting. Develop and maintain reporting tools to track business development activities, evaluate results, and measure return on investment.

What sets this role apart

  • Strategic impact: Partner directly with practice leadership to shape business development priorities, influence growth strategies, and advance client relationships within the Capital Markets team.
  • Market and client engagement: Gain exposure to sophisticated corporate and capital markets matters while collaborating with lawyers and business professionals to identify opportunities and strengthen the firm’s competitive position.
  • Leadership and collaboration: Play a key role in guiding Business Development professionals and driving cross-functional initiatives in a collaborative, high-performing environment.
  • Culture of excellence: Join a team that values strategic thinking, innovation, professional growth, and a commitment to delivering exceptional client service.
  • Flexibility: Morgan Lewis recognizes the benefits of supporting flexible working arrangements. This role offers a hybrid three (3) days per week in-office schedule in our Boston, New York, or Philadelphia office providing flexibility while supporting our collaborative, team-based culture.

Who we’re looking for

  • A proven business development professional with strong strategic thinking and execution skills, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Experience in corporate strategic planning, business development, management consulting, finance, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience in a law firm, professional services firm, or related industry, such as investment banking, preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the competitive landscape affecting major global law firms and demonstrated experience developing and implementing strategic business plans.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership, communicate strategic recommendations, and build trusted relationships.
  • Proven leadership, interpersonal, and client service skills, with experience collaborating across multiple business units and functional teams in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Strong project management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change, and deliver results under demanding deadlines.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
