The posting

At Morningstar, empowering investor success is at the heart of everything we do. We are seeking a talented and motivated Full-Stack Software Engineer with a strong focus on Java, .NET, and Python backend development to join our engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and high-performance applications and services that support our investment data platforms and business solutions. While your primary focus will be backend development, you will also contribute to frontend applications, helping deliver seamless, end-to-end user experiences. You will collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand business needs, solve complex technical challenges, and deliver impactful solutions. We value engineers who take ownership, embrace challenges, continuously improve their skills, and bring fresh ideas to the team. You will have opportunities to work with modern technologies, contribute to cloud-based solutions, and explore innovations in AI-assisted software engineering.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and reliable software applications that address business and investor needs.
  • Apply object-oriented design principles, common design patterns, and software engineering best practices to build maintainable solutions.
  • Follow modern development practices, including code reviews, automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous deployment (CI/CD).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions and intuitive user experiences.
  • Identify opportunities to improve application performance, code quality, system architecture, and development processes.
  • Explore and adopt emerging technologies, including cloud computing and AI-powered tools, to drive innovation and engineering efficiency.
  • Take ownership of features and projects throughout the software development lifecycle, demonstrating accountability, initiative, and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Contribute to product vision, technical strategy, and team success through collaboration, problem-solving, and knowledge sharing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience, with strong programming skills in Java, .NET, or Python.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming, software design patterns, and backend development, including RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server or PostgreSQL, including SQL development and query optimization.
  • Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks such as Vue.js, React, or Angular.
  • Familiarity with software engineering best practices, including Git, automated testing, CI/CD, and application security.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to take ownership and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with AWS, Docker, and cloud-based application development and deployment.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools, LLMs, or AI agents.
  • Familiarity with Linux environments, Apache Tomcat, and production application troubleshooting.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Java frameworks such as Spring Boot, Spring MVC, or Spring Data JPA.
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed systems.
  • AWS certification or an interest in expanding cloud engineering expertise.
  • Experience developing applications or services in the financial services, investment, or data management industry.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?
