About Mrs. Alice

Mrs. Alice by Alice Naylor-Leyland is redefining how you shop tablescapes, tableware and homeware. The brand launched over Christmas 2019 and has been growing rapidly ever since. Creating monthly seasonal drops, Mrs. Alice is inspiring customers all over the World to dress their homes beautifully.

About the role

Mrs. Alice is at an exciting growth phase where we the customer is at the heart of it. This role will be very much accountable for driving the customer experience on the website. It will suit someone that wants to really understand d2c brands and how and why customers shop. They will own the strategies & tactics to continuously know our customers better and improve the experience.

Here’s what you’ll be working on:

  • Lead the preparation and delivery of the monthly global P&L reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Own month-end close activities, including review of journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Provide clear financial analysis and commentary on performance versus budget and prior periods, highlighting risks, opportunities, and key drivers.
  • Act as a key point of contact for audit processes, coordinating information requests, preparing supporting documentation, and liaising with external auditors.
  • Partner with operation and senior leadership teams, providing financial insight and support to inform decision-making.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes, ensuring alignment with business strategy and operational plans.
  • Monitor and review cost control and margin performance, identifying areas for improvement and supporting initiatives to drive efficiency.
  • Maintain and continuously improve financial controls, processes, and reporting standards, ensuring compliance with internal policies and accounting requirements.
  • Support ad-hoc financial analysis and projects as required by the Head of Finance and wider leadership team.
  • Mentor and support outsourced resources / junior staff where applicable, contributing to a collaborative and high-performing finance function.

Requirements

  • This is for an ambitious self-starter who is keen to gain a lot of experience and has their future set on being an in house CFO one day.
  • Only apply if you have In-house / industry experience. We feel this is essential. Someone who has actually owned a month-end close in a commercial business, not audited one - run payables, receivables, journals and month-end.
  • This is an in-office role 4 days a week, with 1 day work from home, based out of our central London office.
  • Your ‘hands-on’ and standalone. You need to produce the numbers, manage a small offshore team, and work to a hard monthly deadline. This is not a review-and-challenge profile.
  • You have practical systems experience, ideally Xero, and comfort with multi-entity consolidation — creating the entries, not just eliminating on consolidation.
  • Fully qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA (ideally 2-5 years PQE)
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and high-quality output through to completion
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and remain effective under pressure considering the finance function supports every part of the our business.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective business partnering with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-growing business environment
  • Nice to have- fundraising experience in UK or US investment market for both equity and debt

Benefits

  • 25 days holiday allowance + public holidays + work from abroad days
  • Home working on Friday’s but flex if you need it
  • Great personal discount code and a friends and family one too
  • Pensions
  • A great team to work with

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
