The posting

The opportunity

We are looking for a Procurement Manager to lead purchasing for our mechanical engineering projects and business operations. You will secure dependable supply, negotiate sound commercial terms and help our project and workshop teams obtain the materials and services they need.

Strong IT capability is central to this role. Working closely with Systems and IT, you will help the procurement team make effective use of SAP Business One, our ERP, and our in-house procurement system. You will bring a practical interest in automation and emerging AI tools, alongside sound purchasing judgement.

Requirements

Purchasing and supplier management

  • Plan purchasing with project, engineering and workshop teams, aligning material availability and supplier capacity with programme and budget requirements.
  • Source and assess suppliers for materials, plant, consumables and services. Negotiate pricing, delivery commitments and purchasing terms with the relevant commercial colleagues.
  • Manage supplier relationships and address late deliveries, shortages and performance concerns. Develop alternative sources where supply continuity is at risk.
  • Oversee purchase orders, approvals and goods receipts, ensuring that costs are assigned to the correct projects and cost codes. Resolve order and invoice discrepancies with Finance.
  • Provide pricing and lead-time input for tenders.

Technical quality and teamwork

  • Work with Engineering and Quality to ensure orders reflect approved specifications, applicable standards and required material certification. Refer proposed substitutions for technical approval before purchase.
  • Apply supplier qualification and purchasing controls, including relevant quality and safety requirements. Help resolve defective or non-conforming supplies with suppliers and the project team.
  • Lead and develop the procurement team, set priorities and support buyers with commercial decisions and complex orders. Build effective working relationships with Finance, Commercial, project teams, Systems and IT.

Systems and digital improvement

  • Embed consistent use of SAP Business One and our in-house procurement system across purchasing activities, keeping supplier, item and transaction information accurate.
  • Work closely with Systems and IT to explain procurement needs, identify improvements and test changes against real purchasing scenarios.
  • Help colleagues adopt system improvements through practical guidance, user feedback and agreed ways of working.
  • Explore opportunities with Systems and IT to use automation and AI for tasks such as reviewing quotations, finding information and reducing repetitive administration. Use approved tools, check their outputs and protect confidential information.

What you will bring

  • A successful record in procurement or purchasing management within mechanical engineering, construction, fabrication or a closely related project environment.
  • Commercial judgement and confident negotiation skills, with experience assessing quotations, agreeing purchasing terms and managing supplier performance.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical materials and equipment, including pipework, fittings and valves, and the ability to interpret purchasing requirements with engineering colleagues.
  • Strong IT literacy and confidence using ERP and procurement systems in day-to-day work. You should be comfortable learning unfamiliar software and helping others use it effectively.
  • An informed interest in new AI technology and a willingness to explore practical applications, evaluate results and adapt established working methods.
  • Clear communication, sound organisation and the ability to make considered decisions when several projects have competing priorities.
  • Experience leading or coaching colleagues and taking ownership of purchasing issues through to resolution.

Experience that would be useful

  • Hands-on experience with SAP Business One or a comparable ERP, and with bespoke procurement applications.
  • Involvement in system improvement projects, user acceptance testing or introducing automation in a purchasing environment.
  • A qualification in procurement, supply chain, engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

The contribution you will make

You will help our teams buy with confidence: materials available when needed, commercially sound supplier agreements and accurate purchasing information. You will also help shape how procurement uses technology, working with Systems and IT to make everyday purchasing more efficient.

Benefits

We offer a competitive salary that takes into account your experience and qualifications. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to excel in a dynamic and supportive atmosphere. Our company values work-life balance and encourages professional growth through a variety of training and development opportunities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
