Job Description

Overview

The Senior .NET Developer is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, testing, and maintaining secure, scalable, performant, and maintainable software solutions using modern Microsoft technologies. The role requires a strong hands-on engineer with 6–9 years of relevant software development experience, ownership of assigned modules or features, and the ability to contribute to technical design, estimation, code quality, troubleshooting, and delivery outcomes. The role requires strong expertise in C#, .NET 6/7/8 or later, ASP.NET Core, Web API, RESTful services, SQL Server or Oracle, and modern engineering practices, with practical understanding of Azure hosting, deployment, monitoring, configuration, and cloud security concepts. The Senior .NET Developer will work closely with technical leads, architects, business analysts, testers, delivery managers, support teams, and other developers to deliver enterprise-grade solutions, mentor junior team members, support production stability, and contribute to gradual modernisation of legacy platforms where required.

Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities

Strategic Focus

  • Take ownership of assigned modules, features, and technical deliverables while contributing to modern, secure, scalable, and maintainable applications using C#, .NET 6/7/8 or later, ASP.NET Core, Web API, REST APIs, Entity Framework or similar data-access patterns, and relational databases.
  • Apply and promote engineering best practices including clean coding, SOLID principles, design patterns, unit testing, peer reviews, maintainable documentation, performance awareness, source control discipline, and secure development practices.
  • Support technical leads and architects in solution design decisions, technical risk identification, estimation, modernisation initiatives, automation, Azure adoption, cloud readiness, and operational improvement activities.

Operational Management

  • Analyse business and technical requirements, challenge assumptions constructively, identify dependencies and risks, and translate requirements into practical technical designs with appropriate guidance from technical leads and architects.
  • Design, build, enhance, and maintain application components across backend services, APIs, database objects, integrations, batch/background processes, and front-end features using React or similar modern UI frameworks where applicable.
  • Write clean, efficient, reusable, testable, and production-ready code using modern C#, ASP.NET Core, RESTful API patterns, asynchronous programming, LINQ, dependency injection, secure configuration, structured logging, exception handling, and SQL Server or Oracle.
  • Develop, secure, and consume RESTful APIs, including validation, authentication and authorisation checks, versioning considerations, API documentation, structured logging, resilient error handling, and integration with internal or external systems.
  • Work confidently with SQL Server or Oracle, including complex queries, joins, indexes, stored procedures, execution plans, transactions, data fixes, query optimisation, and troubleshooting production or environment-related data issues.
  • Contribute to full-stack delivery using React, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, including component development, API integration, form validation, state handling, accessibility awareness, and practical usability improvements.
  • Create and maintain meaningful unit tests, support automated testing where applicable, review test scenarios, investigate defects, perform root-cause analysis, and implement durable fixes that reduce recurrence.
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, refinement, estimation, daily stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives, technical discussions, and delivery planning.
  • Support maintenance, enhancement, troubleshooting, and modernisation of existing legacy .NET applications, including .NET Framework, ASP.NET MVC, Web Forms, WCF, or older enterprise application patterns where required.
  • Apply practical Azure knowledge when developing and supporting cloud-hosted applications, including Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure SQL, Azure Storage, Key Vault, Application Insights, Azure Monitor, environment configuration, secrets management, logging, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Use Git-based source control, branching strategies, pull requests, code review feedback, CI/CD pipelines, build and release processes, deployment controls, and environment promotion practices in line with team standards.

Collaboration & Team Contribution

  • Work collaboratively with developers, technical leads, architects, business analysts, testers, delivery managers, support teams, DevOps engineers, and security stakeholders to deliver quality software outcomes.
  • Communicate progress, estimates, risks, blockers, trade-offs, and technical considerations clearly and in a timely manner to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior developers, support peer learning, contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing, and help build a positive engineering culture focused on quality, ownership, learning, and continuous improvement.

Governance & Risk

  • Ensure development practices align with secure coding, data protection, accessibility, audit, compliance, source control, and information security requirements relevant to enterprise financial technology applications.
  • Apply secure cloud development practices including managed identities, role-based access control, least-privilege access, secure application configuration, secrets management, and awareness of basic cloud cost, resilience, and operational risks.
  • Support production stability through maintainable design, effective logging, monitoring awareness, defect prevention, release readiness, root-cause analysis, post-release support, and proactive identification of operational risks.

Experience & Personal Attributes

  • Minimum Qualification: Bachelor of Engineering / MSc / BSc – IT / Computer Science / Any Graduate with relevant software development experience.
  • 6–9 years of relevant hands-on software development experience using modern C#, .NET 6/7/8 or later, ASP.NET Core, ASP.NET MVC, Web API, RESTful services, and object-oriented programming concepts.
  • Strong understanding of the full SDLC, Agile delivery practices, requirements analysis, estimation, technical design, development, testing, deployment, release support, and production support.
  • Strong SQL capability using SQL Server or Oracle, including complex queries, joins, stored procedures, indexing concepts, execution plans, performance tuning, transactions, data analysis, and troubleshooting data-related issues.
  • Strong experience designing, developing, securing, versioning, documenting, and integrating RESTful APIs and backend services with internal or external systems.
  • Strong understanding of SOLID principles, common design patterns, clean code practices, dependency injection, asynchronous programming, caching concepts, exception handling, logging, security awareness, and performance optimisation.
  • Experience with unit testing and mocking frameworks such as xUnit, NUnit, MSTest, Moq, or similar tools, with the ability to design useful test scenarios and support maintainable automated test coverage.
  • Hands-on experience with Git, pull requests, branching strategies, merge discipline, collaborative code reviews, conflict resolution, and maintaining code quality across shared repositories.
  • Working knowledge of Azure is expected, including practical understanding of Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure SQL, Azure Storage, Key Vault, Application Insights, Azure Monitor, CI/CD pipelines, build and release automation, cloud-based deployment practices, and environment configuration.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex application issues across code, APIs, databases, integrations, logs, Azure telemetry, pipelines, deployments, and environments, with a practical approach to root-cause analysis, corrective action, and long-term prevention.
  • Expected to stay current with the .NET ecosystem, Microsoft platform capabilities, Azure services, secure development practices, DevOps tooling, observability practices, and modern engineering tools relevant to enterprise software delivery.
  • Practical exposure to front-end development using React is preferred; experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, component-based UI development, API integration, client-side validation, state management, and accessibility awareness will be an advantage.
  • Understanding of legacy .NET technologies such as .NET Framework, ASP.NET MVC, Web Forms, WCF, Windows Services, or older enterprise application patterns will be an advantage, as existing platforms may require maintenance, enhancement, troubleshooting, or gradual modernisation alongside modern .NET development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ownership mindset, ability to mentor and guide junior developers, adaptability to changing priorities, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
