The primary responsibility for the Quality Assurance Specialist position is to drive daily adherence to the Quality Management System and support Lean initiatives within the facility. Be a change agent for process improvement and standardization efforts. Lead efforts to maintain certifications for ISO and Food Safety as well as relevant customer qualifications. Responsibilities:
Provide world-class customer service by taking personal responsibility for customers and delivering accurate and timely information. Drives quality improvement efforts to establish and enforce an effective Quality Management System (QMS). Uses Lean Six Sigma methodology to support Lean initiatives, improve processes and reduce defects. Implements and maintains internal surveillance audit process focused on ensuring adherence to the QMS, Control Plans and QPOC process. Leads the facility quality efforts and defines areas of responsibility, personnel requirements, and operational procedures. Ensures that Change Management procedures are followed and communicated to all affected teammates. Assures adherence to the internal audit plan to verify plant adherence to FDC quality management system. Assures supplier quality by enforcing quality assurance standards, policies, and industry/government requirements. Serve as an ISO and/or Food Safety auditor on a local plant level. Lead internal audit planning and execution in preparation for ISO 9001, BRC, and FDA audits. Responsible for the maintenance of ISO and FSSC documentation at plant level. Maintain quality record documentation, including internal audit records, management review meeting minutes and charts, calibration records, training records, internal non-conformances, customer complaints, vendor non-conformances, corrective action reports and meeting action items. Primary “point of contact” for internal and external (customer complaints inclusive) investigation of non-conformances to include interaction with process owners and Senior Management with the end result being the determination of root cause and corrective actions that may require training. This may include travel to customer facilities for in-person engagement. Provide customer-facing quality support, including direct communication and issue resolution. Serve as plant’s SME for quality. Responsible for calibration of all quality devices, scales and production tools. Manage glass and brittle breakage logs required for BRC audit compliance. Manage submission and logging of microbiological testing for BRC and FDA audits. Training new Quality employees or retraining current employees in the use of all gauges and measurement equipment as it relates to internal and external “fitness for use” critical characteristics. Perform audits per applicable sampling plans, including shipping and converting audits; support data integrity, testing methodology standardization, and non-conformance material containment process. Perform QA laboratory testing as required for specified product lines Conduct process capability analysis and routine inspection and testing of product. Works with facility management team to achieve overall financial objectives, reduce customer credits by making fiscally responsible business decisions and initiating corrective actions to prevent systemic issues from occurring. Coaches and develops plant Quality Technicians in effective use of quality tools such as process audits, root cause counter measure (RCCM), measurement systems analysis (MSA), and statistical process control (SPC) and quality management systems (QMS), when applicable. Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including Kaizen and A3 (PDCA) problem-solving projects. Understands ISO, BRC and HAACP or similar principles and assists in facilitating compliance throughout the plant through a variety of activities. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Manufacturing Technology or Business Administration (related technical discipline may be considered) or similar. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in leadership role in one or more of the areas of quality, engineering, manufacturing and/or lean deployment. Demonstrated problem solver with direct experience coaching, teaching, and applying lean sigma, six sigma and/or lean manufacturing techniques. Six Sigma or CQE required (ASQ or equivalent). HACCP certification for Food Safety is a plus
