HYDRAULIC FIELD ENGINEER

PAY & PERKS

- Pay Rate: $50–$60/hour (depending on experience)

- Per Diem: $120/day for hotel and meals

- Schedule: 40 hours/week with overtime potential

- Contract-to-hire opportunity

- Work with a global leader in metals and automation manufacturing

- Project location: Apple Grove, WV – just outside Huntington, WV

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client operates a steel manufacturing facility in Apple Grove, WV and is hiring a Hydraulic Field Engineer to take full-cycle ownership of the plant's hydraulic systems. This is a hands-on, field-focused role for an engineer who has commissioned and serviced hydraulic systems on-site — not a design-only background — and who's comfortable owning a system end-to-end with minimal oversight. Much of the facility's equipment is sourced from Europe and runs deeper, more complex hydraulic architecture than typical domestic mill equipment, so direct OEM experience with Rexroth, Parker, or a similar hydraulics platform is critical.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Take full-cycle ownership of hydraulic systems across the facility: commissioning, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.

- Manage spares and parts planning for hydraulic components.

- Drive continuous improvement initiatives on hydraulic systems and processes.

- Support and service equipment sourced from Europe, which runs deeper/more complex hydraulic architecture than typical domestic mill equipment.

- Work independently in the field, troubleshooting and resolving hydraulic issues with minimal supervision.

- Split time between hands-on floor work and office/administrative duties (spares planning, documentation), based on preference.

- Partner with the mechanical team and site leadership to keep hydraulic systems running reliably in support of broader plant reliability goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Field engineer background — hands-on experience commissioning and servicing hydraulic systems on-site, not design-only.

- Direct experience with Rexroth, Parker, or a similar hydraulics OEM/contractor.

- Comfortable working independently and owning a hydraulic system end-to-end.

- Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics and equipment specifications.

- Strong troubleshooting and repair skills for hydraulic components and systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience supporting hydraulic equipment sourced from Europe or with more complex hydraulic architecture.

- Steel or heavy industrial manufacturing experience — not required; OEM/field service depth matters more than industry pedigree.

- Spares and parts planning experience for hydraulic components.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

On-site, day shift role at an active steel manufacturing facility in Apple Grove, WV — no night shifts required. Flexible split between plant-floor work and office/admin time based on candidate preference. Requires regular time on the plant floor, including exposure to heat, noise, and heavy machinery. Standard PPE required. Contract role with a path to a permanent position based on performance.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
