Compensation is determined based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, location, and market competitiveness.

This role requires associates to work out of a MVH North America hub location – Vancouver, WA

Why This Role Matters

The Application Engineer is the technical owner for feature delivery within their assigned product pillar. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Engineering for the pillar, this role serves as the connection between business intent and delivered software: partnering with product teams to convert business requirements into technical requirements and designs, then working alongside offshore vendor engineering teams to see those designs built, released, and supported in production.

The Application Engineer balances technical depth with the coordination skills required in a distributed delivery model. This role defines what good looks like before work begins, holds the quality line on what comes back, and ensures delivered features align with the pillar's architecture vision, technical roadmap, and operational support model.

You Will

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. embedding quality, responsibility, and efficiency in all work and decisions
  • Partner with product management, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into clear technical specifications, solution designs, and acceptance criteria.
  • Provide technical feasibility assessments, effort estimates, and architectural guidance to support product prioritization, planning, and delivery decisions.
  • Define technical requirements, integration contracts, data flows, and implementation expectations for distributed and contracted engineering delivery teams.
  • Oversee technical delivery by external engineering partners, providing clarification, reviewing implementation quality, and ensuring deliverables meet established architectural, security, and coding standards.
  • Evaluate completed engineering deliverables against defined acceptance criteria and quality gates, recommending technical acceptance or escalating gaps requiring remediation.
  • Ensure application development aligns with established architecture standards, technical roadmaps, security requirements, and long-term maintainability objectives.
  • Define operational readiness requirements for new features, including monitoring, observability, alerting, support documentation, and production stabilization.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and external delivery teams to identify technical dependencies, resolve implementation challenges, and maintain alignment across distributed delivery efforts.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying technical debt, performance and reliability opportunities, and reusable engineering practices. Maintain hands-on technical proficiency through prototyping, technical investigations, and critical fixes as needed.

Your Experience Should Include

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional software engineering experience, including designing, developing, and delivering applications or features into production environments.
  • Experience translating business requirements into technical specifications, solution designs, and measurable acceptance criteria.
  • Proficiency in C#/.NET and TypeScript/Angular application development, with experience building and supporting applications in Microsoft Azure environments.
  • Working knowledge of Azure cloud services, including Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure API Management (APIM), Azure Key Vault, and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
  • Experience with Git-based source control, pull request reviews, continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), and modern software development practices.
  • Understanding of application architecture, API integrations, data flows, security practices, and enterprise application design principles.
  • Experience reviewing code, evaluating technical implementations, and identifying quality, performance, security, and maintainability concerns.
  • Working knowledge of application observability, monitoring, troubleshooting, and production support practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions, risks, and tradeoffs to engineering teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing technical priorities, and collaborate effectively across product, engineering, and business teams.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
